Using My Own Email?

Hi, is it possible on an n93 to set it up to access my normal (what I'd normally get via Outlook on my p.c.) email + hotmail account using wifi and my regular email server rather than having to go via vodafone & possibly setting up an email account with them?

A step by step/link would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Yes. Three ways:

With the built-in Messaging app, if your email provider supports Internet standards POP3 or IMAP4 for receiving mail and SMTP for sending. As far as I know, Hotmail doesn't directly.

With the browser, if the email has a browser based user interface/front-end. For Hotmail, you can also use http://mobile.msn.com/wml/

And with separate/special apps such as the Java app you can get for Google's GMail by pointing your phone's browser to gmail.com/app

Thanks for that. Yes, my regular email I collect via Outlook is using pop3 and if you wouldn't mind mate, an idiots' walkthrough for me would be much appreciated.

Right then, thanks for the excellent advice - I've now managed to set the n93 up to check for my emails and download the headers using my main email account via my wifi connection at home :icon14:

The n93 (when closed) shows when I've got an email(s) on the small front display, but unfortunately nothing shows on the main screen!!

I've seen screenies of n93's with email notices on the "desktop" but don't know how to set mine up to show the same - it basically goes on the same part as where your appointments show up under the active standby apps.

Would someone please give me an idiot's guide as to how to get this on my phone?!!!

Cheers
Rick

That's an added feature Nokia Enterprise Solutions added to the Eseries phones (E50, E60, E61, E61, E70). It is not available on other S60 based devices like your N93.
