Did anyone have such experience on setup N80 as a GPRS on MAC OS 10.x, via the bluetooth connection. It works on PC with a special AT initialize string but don't find anyway in Mac.
N80 GPRS in MAC OS
I've never had to use additional AT commands to the N80 working on the PC, usually I just have it dial *99# and that connects to what ever data provider is available.
Are you doing something different? If so give that a try and see how you go with it.
Hi!
It's fairly simple. Check out Ross barkman's page on: taniwha.org.uk
From there you can download GPRS modem scripts for use with Mac OS X and nokia phones.
When setting up the connection, select one of these scripts in the Bluetooth modem setting, in the Network Preferences.
You'll have to get the username, password and telephone number from your network, athough normally the first two are left blank and the telephone number is something like *99***1#. Anyway, ring up customer services and get the correct number from them.
It's a little frustrating to get it up and running, but once it is it runs like a dream.... mobile hotspot..... you can even use the N80 as the internet portal and your mac as a wireless router via the internet sharing options.
Enjoy
Thanks chrisinsiam, I am just a newbie to Mac OS, I have no problem running on PC, this ensure the account/SIM should be workable. I downloaded the file from taniwha.org.uk, which obtain 2 files ("Nokia 3G CID1" & "Nokia 3G CID2"😉. I have tried both in MAC OS, still not work. I am wondering would that be the way I copy the file from PC to MAC cause some problem, or I just don't know how to do it. The dial process is working fine, establish PPP and connected to the carrier, but still failed finally. The line was just got discounted during user authentications. But as I said earlier, I am sure the SIM and the account is okay, as I tested in PC enviornment. Is it possible if you could share with me how exactly it works on your Mac? Can you post the script file to me, so I could download it directly from my Macbook. Since the one I downloaded from the site, is a "sit" format file. I can only decompress it in my PC, then using bluetooth to transfer it to the MAC.
Finally, I figured the way how it works on MAC OS. As said, download the file from the web site taniwha.org.uk, you need to open a notepad to modify the file. By searching a line with something like "+cgdcont", you will have a result like this:-
+cgdcont=1,"","<APN>"
Replace the <APN> by your service provider name, in which you might need to do some research from internet or check it out with your service provider. In my case, I need to replace it as :-
+cgdcont=1,"","peoples.net"
After all, most important is, do not put in the number to dial. Normally, you will key in like "*9*#", in this case, put the APN as the dial number. So I have "peoples.net" as the dial number.
very strange but it finally works.
Good luck to everyone if you also looking for such piece of infomation.
