when I get a new voice mail, I get a new voicemail icon AND a "New messages (1)" text.
After I listen to the voice message, the text "New messages (1)" does NOT go away!
does this have something to do with
1) the recent firmware update?
2) I installed Call Recorder Pro

Scroll through your list of messages in your inbox. I have a feeling you'll find one new one down the list with an incorrect date on it. In other words... I had my date set a month ahead by accident after resetting my e70. Before I realized this I had received dozens of text messages. I realized the date was off when I was updating my schedule and corrected it. I then received a text message and when I went to my inbox the message wasn't immediately at the top because the messages I received were time stamped with next month's date so the new one was much further down the list since it's sorted chronologically.
So, scroll through them all and make sure there are no new messages that got lost in there somewhere.

After I had updated my phones firmware, I loaded all my backup data including old text messages.
When the phone receives a new voice-message, the text-message icon appears for a split second and then "normally" disappears.
For some reason, the phone's software must have seen the backed up text messages as unread (even though the envelope icon on all the text messages was open) and so did NOT make the text message icon go away until you had deleted at least one old message.
this is a FLAW in the backup software that needs to be addressed. I was able to fix it by deleting all my text messages in my inbox - which kind of sucked.

I've had the same issue off and on with all firmware revs, normally with the Voicemail Waiting icon not going away even after all messages have been deleted from my voice mailbox. The only fix I've found, since the icon and messages are triggered by your phone provider, is to call yourself and leave a "message", then call your voicemail, listen to your "new message" then delete it. This sends a "clear all" message to your phone that will normally wipe any orphaned indicators from your phone.
