2 things,
firstly, you know how you cen set the phone so when a freind rings, it says their name intermittently in the ringtone, well can you do the same thing for texts? or a messageon the standby screen saying message from .... similar to meeteings etc
secondly, i have this icon trhing lighting up in the right top corner where it would usually have a key or letter to indicate i hve a text, it is an underlines 1 with an arrow up, like below

That is a divert indicator. See the User Guide for more about call diverts. The numner indicates phone line 1 (your operator apparently is one that supports the use of one or two lines; you can switch between the lines through a long press of the '#' key).

pressing the # key down on some varients changes profiles between general and silent.
BTW, you posted twice... did you know that??
The feature for saying the callers name works only for phone calls & I don't know of any way to make it work for messages, too.
The call diverts you can check/change in the "Settings" app (under "Phone).

no actually, i cant find tehsetting. lol.
ive read sum where u can only get it off the screen by getting a fix txted to you from orange(service provider) and that it only works for a bit before coming back
Menu > Tools > Settings > Call Divert > Voice Calls > All Voice Calls > Cancel.
Clearly, you would only need to turn off the above if you arent getting any calls or they are being diverted to another phone/vmx?!
