N80 Vs. N95

I am wondering other than the obvious (camera, GPS) is there any difference between the two?

I am not a big fan of GPS. Sure, its cool that it is embedded, but if I wanted, I could just get TomTom + external receiver -- its not a must-have for me.

So far I have found out that both have:

1. WiFi
3. Bluetooth
4. USB
5. EDGE + 3G
6. Similar form factor
7. Radio

What is else does the N95 have that the N80 doesn't? I'm thinking about getting an N80 and just wanted to know if I overlooked any major drawbacks (other than the two major hardware differences of GPS and 5MP camera).

Thanks!

The only thing at the moment that would make me change is that it has a bigger capacity battery, but I will wait for a few months to see what people are saying about it, if the battery life is extended by a reasonable amount then I will probably change just for that reason.

fyrestrtr wrote:Is it not possible to get a higher capacity battery for the N80?

No, you will see on ebay, or online websites bigger capacity batteries, but these are fake and either dont last long, or are no better than the battery that comes with the N80..

Trust me if there was a higher capacity battery that was any good I would know about it and have one 😊..

well the N95 is larger but thinner.

Its got a TV out.

Its got a larger internal memory.

2 extra Megapixels on the pics and the video should be better... (like thats hard)

Its HSPDA too.. so supposed to be quicker than 3G

And... it'll be newer.

If none of that floats your boat, buy an N80

oh, and RE the battery, Id think that any decent use on this phone, like the N80 will mean a newar daily charge

Agree! But I think the only real improvement is the camera, more even on video mode.

I guess I'm buying an N80 since neither of those are a big concern of mine.

I don't envision ever

* Hooking my cellphone to a TV
* Taking anything other than "hobby" photos with it
* HSDPA is not available on cellphones where I live
* Newer just means more expensive to me 😊

The N95 will have a significantly superior camera (with Carl Zeiss lens and autofocus as well as the extra 2MP) and a much better video capture. Even with the 3MP of the N80, I find it very difficult to get anything other than a blurry mess as the software is so unresponsive.

Speaking of which, the N95 is rumored to have a faster onboard CPU, which begs the question: why have they given the N95 a 320x240 res screen? I know that this will make things shift along a lot faster on the performance front, but that lovely screen is still one of the features that sets the N80 apart from the other full-ons. Internet browsing in particular benefits from this.

I suppose you have already answered your own question. If you don't need blistering performance and in-built GPS (what are the details of this anyway? Is routing software built-in? Will it be a 'Pay-as-you-drive' like Wayfinder?) and would appreciate the improved day to day experience that the N80's screen offers, then go for it and buy a bluetooth GPS and TomTom. I can highly recommend it.

Yes I agree about the N80`s screen best in its class are far as i`m aware, and was what made me pick the N80...higher res than any other phone that I know off and crystal clear.....why the N95 has a lesser screen has put me off straight away...Intergrated GPS is a good idea and any improvement on the camera pic quality is a bonus, auto focus for one is a plus for the N95.

I can tell you a few things about the GPS:

* Its integrated and (so far) can only be used by the software that comes with the phone -- which, it just so happens, is also available as a free download 😃
* Routing is not built in -- this is a pay-as-you-go service (which I assume incurrs data charges as the route information has to be downloaded). In addtion, POI information is not included, just basic location information.
* Voice guidance is a pay option

I think I'll purchase the N80. The only thing I don't like about the N80 is that I'm spoiled by my M600's keyboard and find going back to the 12 key arrangement a bit of a headache 😞

Can anyone give some insight between the camera qualities of the N80 and the K750?

Very briefly,

You can forget about using the N80 camera at night, or to get quick snaps, it relatively good in daylight with good light.

Video quality is crap.full stop.

one reason I bought the N80 was because it was supposed to have a great camera, so I didn't have to take my phone and camera out with me, but sadly I still have to take out my camera, its an 8 year old 3MP sony and takes superior photo's compared to the N80.

If you just want the odd snap now and then in good light then its ok, if like me you expect to take most photo's at night, then forget it as a camera phone.....go for the N95 instead if this is very important to you.

OK - so you can't use the built in GPS with TomTom - but can you use Bluetooth ? I want it purely for the camera, plus a few other smaller tweaks such as the ability to play more video formats (I love podcasts, I commute daily). The GPS (built in) would be incredibly useful for me as a guy in London who often finds himself lost (I know buildings, slow accuracy etc.. but its a pointer!). Also, I think that it will have that newer o/s in it symbian 3 feature pack two ? ? ? And the other major feature that I will love is the headphone out!

I know the battery life is a bit of an issue with the N80 - but frankly, the way I use it I know I am going to have to charge it - Fring'ing in the evening, mp3 player during the commute, games, Gmail, and although the pics aren't great - with global warming the summers are going to be brighter and I have found it quite useful!

Personally I find it entertaining when people on trains get out there Ipod, blackberry, and mobile phone ... then get out the laptop...

Anyhow the ONE single thing I find annoying - the changing memory card settings - I mean why with 3 phones in as many years have I had to go from SD (Motorola A925), RMMC (6630) MiniSD (N80) and the N95 will be MicroSD. Shops are making a killing at the moment!!! I keep thinking I should buy a load cheap and sell them on the market!

I think everyone already knows what they want from their next phone. As fyrestrtr has said, the 'benefits' of the N95 wont benefit him.

I think that, as with all nokias, once you buy the 'latest', 2 months later they release something else that 'might' be better....

its the way the business works... so yeah... in your case, buy the N80 and skip the N95 and see what appears next! 😉

N95 will have S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 (based on Symbian OS 9.2).

TomTom, I assume, will release a version that can use the built-in GPS on the N95. Only they know when, of course.

Is there a easy way to tell if a N80 is the "normal" one or the IE? Something quick that I can check at a shop.

After reading the comments on the camera and some rather alarming problems at the mobile-review N80 writeup now I'm not so sure about my purchase decision.

I really liked the following things about the N80:

1. Form factor -- small although a bit chubby, but I can live with that.
2. WiFi (something I sorely miss on my M600)
3. The awesome screen
4. The OS -- after years of SE use, I think I'm warming up to S60

But now after reading all these comments and negatives; I'm not too sure. Seems no one has anything good to say about the N80.

The Internet Version of the N80 would say internet on the box. Theres some bad things about the phone but I mean im not going into photography with the n80. Wi-Fi is a huge thing for me because i use it about 3 hours a day, and internet radio is on the whole night for me. Everything else is top par to other N-series phones.

SpeTz:

Have you got the phone connected to external speakers to use the internet radio?

I went to the local Nokia shop and inquired about the N95. They have told me that it should arrive here by the end of this month (which really shocked me). I asked the guy as a test question (sometimes these people are not that knowledgeable about their products) of what is the difference between the N80 and the N95. Answers:

1. N95 has the largest screen of any Nokia device (I assume by this he meant any S60 device as the Communicator clearly has a larger screen)
2. GPS + Camera

He also commented that the only problem people have with the N80 is the battery life; and he said there isn't any extended capacity battery for the N80, which in his opinion was its only downfall.

Estimated price of the N95 ... approx $900/800 Euro/530 pounds. All phones sold here are SIM free and unbranded.

Shame that the N95 display will only have a 240x320 resolution. So it will no way be the biggest NOKIA screen, and it still has to convince me it's worth replacing my excellent N80. Probably the battery will help me make up my mind, as it seems the GPS program (if they ask us to pay for the navigation feature) will not replace my Tomtom.

fyrestrtr, no I didnt get speakers for the internet radio cause I could just use my computer to play the internet radio, but since the phone is right next to me I put it on low and it plays on thru the night. The extra 400 dollars for the camera and gps in my mind arent worth it. Im going to buy a new phone in about 6 months and by that time there will be a better nokia

Sorry I know you answered this, but is there a way to tell by looking at the phone itself (maybe an option is in the menu, or an appliation I should look for?) that tells me if this is the IE version or the "normal" N80.

The N80ie has the WLAN wizard on the standby screen, and an "internet" folder in the menu...if that's any help.

As the n95 has tv out, is it possible to stream music or video using something like orb from a pc via the n95 to a tv via wifi?

im an n80IE user but the n95 does it for me, the n95 has over the n80: 160 mb fone mem, 64 mb RAM, tv-out (will be nice to play games and brows net on tv screen), stereo music via bluetooth (stream in stereo to a hi-fi system), GPS, 5 mp cam with auto focus, DVD-like vid recording (plug into dvd recorder and record ur own footage to disk), 3.5 mm headfone jack, mini-USB (glad they got rid of the pop port), change font size in themes menu, animated screen savers, 3D menu, 5 diferent menu styles (grid, list, v-shape, horse shoe and another one lol), 2.6" screen with 16 m colors, 330mhz CPU, stereo speakers, HSDPA (3.5 G upto 1.8 mbps), dedicated multimedia keys, the list is endles, most of these are minor things but all add up to make a great handset, i'll be getting it fore sure, its due on voda uk on 4th april........ enjoy

[QUOTE=Keydogg;299356]I know this isnt relevant, but u might want to consider an O2 phone, (if you can get one in your country)

As much as i love my N80 and it has been a great phone (especially since i updated it to IE), when i come to upgrade in June im going to be going for either an O2 XDA Orbit [QUOTE]

As much as I hate to say, O2 is the worst choice of phones. We use O2 and Imates for our company phones and they either hang, die or have time synch issues with our exchange server (known bug, but they still havent fixed it yet!)

My boss has been through 2 x O2 Atoms and 2 Imate phones. He needs a reboot three times a day - as with my HP 6515.. The N80 is 100% more stable than these!

Greeting's

Okay guys I may be wrong here .. but some time back I had read that N95 was orginally N85.. It seems they have changed it to N95... All the N series..
(N7x, N9x) have got upgrades (N70-71-72-73-75-76 😮 and N91-92-93-93i-95) I am sure that there is going to be and N8x update soon.. and I'm sure its going to beat all of these feature wise.. Just like 6630 was a leap.. feature wise N80 is a leap.. Hope its successor it BEST !! (okay ill even settle for better)

The guy at my local mobile shop here in cyprus has an N95.....and its a COMPLETE DOG !!! i asked him about availability and he told me a list of problems as long as your arm,and even advised me to stay with my N80.
he would not have advised me to stay with my N80 if wasnt worried about me going back every 5 mins with one complaint or another !!!
With this in mind he also said that when the N80 came out there were loads of problems. So its probably best to wait a while.I have bought 3 phones of him in the past and he has always been honest about products.
hope this helps !

i know 2 ppl with n95 protos and they have no problems with the latest prototype firmware, just a few minor flaws that most s60's have
