Hey,

After googling some stuff on firmware i Stumbled across the Nokia FW Updater application on the Nokia Europe site which allows you, with the USB cable to update the firmware yourself safely...

I was just wondering if anyone has tried this with their N80 or if it would work in australia properly, I am keen to do it but not sure if its going to work properly??

Cheers

P.S Link is:

(it wont let me post a url till ive done 10posts)

I would say that most of us on this forum have used this to update our firmware. It's fairly easy to do, but make sure that your phone is fully charged and once it's connected up not to touch it as the pop port connector is a bit pants. Also remember to back up your phone as it will lose all saved data. it is worth upgrading your firmware if there is an update as it can fix several glitches.

excellent. I made a post about a few glitches i have on my phone the other day then found this... i still have version 3.x something

is there anyway to backup software cuz some programs were given to me and i dont have the reinstall files...

Yes you use nokia pc suite that comes with the phone, you can backup your phone and this includes the updater in the suite

I've done it twice. The fw that shipped with my N80 did not let me mount the memory card from freebsd or macosx.

Whatever you do do not even think about touching the cable or phone during the flash. The pop port is junk and the smallest movement can hose you.

yeah i think ive noticed about the cable....

i cant even make mine pair with pc suite because the cable is so dodgy, it just drops all the time then keeps asking to link to pc suite and cant make a connection.

i might put a rubber band around it when i get a connection to hold it in
