Can't use 'proper' internet - HELP

Hi I'm hoping someone can help me with my N80 problem.

Last week I upgraded my firmware to version 4 and didn't back my phone up properly!
It wiped everything but at least I had saved my numbers.

Anyway I'm back up and running and I've got all my settings back to the way they were BUT I can't use the internet properly.

Before I upgraded whenever I logged onto the net via the phoneline or wireless then I could log onto the ACTUAL internet and move a mouse-style cursor around the screen with the joypad.

After upgrading I can still log onto the net but it's like a 'lite' version. There is no mouse cursor to control and very, very basic.

Can someone give me directions to be able to see proper webpages again?

thanks

Insted of using the "Services" browser, use the "Web" browser (in case you haven't noticed that there are two different browsers on your phone).

Both can be used to get to the "real" Internet (because it is not about the browser, but choosing your network operator's Internet access point, instead of their WAP access point, or using WLAN/Wi-Fi). However, the "Web" browser is a better browser for web access.

Thanks for the pointers. I did not know there were 2 browsers!

How do i access my operator's internet access point instead of defaulting to their WAP access point?
Any chance of an idiot's guide walk-through?

Have your operator send you an SMS with the appropriate settings, then when you recieve it, install these settings. That should fix it.

I'lll give it a go but I've described this problem to them already and they couldn't sort it.

Maybe I should be more specific instead of referring to terms such as 'proper internet' and 'internet lite' 🙄

This is driving me nuts.
I've been on to O2 asking them for the access point settings for the web browzer and I specifically asked them that I don't want to use the WAP browser.

They sent me O2 GPRS WAP settings (is this right???). I installed them and saved them but when I go to access the internet I always go straight the the O2 WAP homepage. I can't access the normal browser.

To access this page I'm just pressing the top right button on the front of the phone (that points to "O2" on the screen in the bottom right corner). Is this right or should I be going about it another way?
This was the way I accessed the proper internet browser before I did my firmware update which then wiped my phone.

your help is appreciated!!

if u have pay as u go the mobile internet is not available (www)
if u want to amend any details go into ur browser ->settings and amend access point
if u want any settings for mobile web use the links above (nokia's website)

cheers

i have o2 PAYG and i can browse mobile web

i dont no wh you would its like £3 per MB IIRC

anyway

menu>internet>web>options>settings>access point>o2 mobile web

if not there then go on www.o2.co.uk and get the settings sent via SMS

I thought I'd just post how I managed to conclude this issue in case some other poor chump (like me) experiences problems!!

Some helpful person at O2 pointed me to the N80's other browser. Someone on here earlier alluded to there being more than 1 browser on the N80 but then kindly decided not to say how to access it.

This other browser is found in the "My Own" folder and when you use this link you actually get your 'mouse' back!

But you still only get the basic internet view. This is because (apparently) the new firmware defaults to the WAP view to speed up loading the pages etc.
The old firmware allowed you to view web pages in full HTML which is what I was after all along but apprently there is no way to get this back.

BUT some pages online do ask if you want to view the page in full HTML and by clicking on this you can see the page as you would on your PC however some pages refuse to load at all when you click on the HTML view.

Hopefully this info will help someone else in the future.

cheers,
