I'm fairly disappointed as my phone isn't that old and the thumb stick has pretty much given up the fight already. It started a while back with the center click being temperamental and now it's to the point where it takes a solid 10 seconds to select anything using it and it seem to be getting worse and worse. I've now using the left soft touch key to open items with a couple clicks (Options->Open) instead of the center click to save on use but that seems like a bandaid fix for the real problem. It's a Euro version so how do I go about warranty or can I buy the part to replace it and if so where? I've already taken the phone apart and it doesn't like an easy fix even if you're handy with a soldering iron so warranty would be preferred if this is an option.
Thanks for any help or ideas.
This problem must be covered by the warranty, due to the fact that is an internal defect, which should not appear even in the case of power users. Take it back to the shop from where you bought it, but this only if you didn't open it.
After spending quite a bit of time on the phone with Nokia today the bottom line is that if you bought an e70 (not an e70-2) then you have NO warranty here in the US. Not only that but I was told they couldn't even give me the info for a local Nokia authorized repair center because my serial number wouldn't pull up in their system so they couldn't even refer me to one even though I wanted to pay for it out of pocket! I'm not real happy with this and even spoke to several supervisors and got the same results. I finally got one that is going to see if he can get me the part from their repair center and send it to me since I've been a long time Nokia customer and one time Level 3 Nokia technician and cell phone salesman. I'm not going to hold my breath on this one though.
I opened my phone and used a decent amount of denatured alcohol and while pressing the navigation stick in and letting it I douched it with the alky. I repeated this several times and then hit it with canned air while working the navigation stick to work anything out that might be inside the switch. Let it dry for a minute and the put it back together and it seems to have cleared it up for now. I'll post back on how long the fix lasts as well as what the outcome for the warranty status is. Doesn't sound very good though and I'm VERY disappointed with the complete lack of care that I bought their product legally regardless of what country I reside in.
