N73 on O2 UK, v2.0628.0.0.1
Bought this about 3 weeks ago partly for its camera quality ratings. I can live with with slightly excessive jpeg compression, however most of my shots so far have been blurred. Looks like camera shake/motion blur, and it seems to me that the shutter speeds as recorded in the jpeg are pretty slow. A few pics taken in full sun are perfectly sharp, therefore it's probably not a lens fault. I don't see a lot of posts about this, and most of the n73 sample photos that I found on various sites look ok. So I would like to establish if there's a fault with my phone, or something to do with the firmware rev - or if I'm just not using it properly.
The attached picture shows the blurring and has a shutter speed of 1/77 at f2.8, iso100 (taken with 'auto' settings). I should probably try to do a direct comparison with my Olympus on the same scene, but anyway I checked a few of the jpegs from that camera and it rarely shows longer than 1/320 at f4.8, in similar lighting conditions
Has anyone else had this problem, and do the later firmware versions (not available on O2) make any difference ? I would imagine not if it's just the small image sensor needing a longer time to catch enough light. Also it's bound to be harder to hold a phone perfectly still compared to a larger camera. But I would like to know how others are able to get good shots in apparently similar conditions, particularly some of the 'n73 v k800' shootout comparisons. Where the original camera settings properties are visible they generally have similar shutter speeds to my pictures. Using 'sports' mode does reduce blur but at the expense of increased noise and shouldn't be necessary for a static subject. Thanks for any suggestions !
