Hi,
I have very recently got an N73 on the 3 Network in the UK. It has been updated to the latest firmware, v3.0638.0.0.1, 30-10-2006, RM-133, Nokia N73 (54.01).
I put my phone on charge overnight, set the alarm, and switched it off. 40 minutes after it was supposed to go off, I wake up, and see that the phone's on the standby screen (showing the time, the silent symbol and that I had a message), but is frozen. I don't know what to press to resolve this, so I simply had to remove the battery and put it back in again! It seemed the phone was still kind of active, as 15 minutes after the alarm was supposed to go off the SMS message arrived, and the frozen screen did show the SMS symbol.
I tried it a few more times just now, and indeed if I switch the phone off after setting the alarm, it seems the task of booting itself up and sounding the alarm is 'too hard', as it launches straight to a frozen standby screen. Stupidly, after I insert the battery again each time, THEN it sounds the alarm (showing the original time) when I switch the phone on.
The alarm is an important feature to me-and I'm not going to leave the phone on all night just for it to work. I'm sure like other phones it is supposed to switch itself on to sound the alarm. Does anyone else have this problem and is there a fix? Or is there a 3rd party alarm application?
Also I have a question-how do I see more obviously how much battery is left? On my Sony K800i I could press a volume key and it would say the percentage of battery left (as well as seeing the normal symbols on the screen showing how many bars). Is there a similar thing to do on the N73 or must I rely on the bars?
Ok, now I tried an application called Handy Alarm. I notice the phone half switches on to prepare itself a minute before it seems, and the alarm ACTUALLY SOUNDED! But of course the poor phone just couldn't cope, so it's just stuck on the standby screen (with the time/date etc) and the screen lights up if I press a button. However, I can't get out of this without taking the battery out! No buttons do anything! Despite the fact the alarm sounded, there was no way of switching it off or putting it on snooze etc. I just held the power button down after the 3rd round of the alarm, and the alarm probably switches off by then anyway, so maybe me pressing that button didn't do anything.
Oh the alarm's now going off 4 minutes later! But I can't see ANY way of switching it off or using the phone without pulling the battery out. 😡
maybe check the clock settings on Menu > Applications > Clock > Options > Set Alarm or Remove Alarm ... u can set the network operator time to auto update and change the clock alarm tone to a different one maybe itll fix it...maybe
Thanks. I just tried that though, and again it boots up, and eventually goes to the standby mode quite happily (with the info on that screen jumping about every minute as normal) but it's stuck there. Am I right that pulling the battery out at that point is the only fix? Seeing as nothing else works?
And what do I do to fix this problem? Do other peoples alarms work fine when the phones switched off?
I'm running V 3.0705.1.0.31 ME and I've just tried setting the alarm, turning it off and seeing what happens.
No problems. All worked fine.
Come to think of it, it worked fine a few months ago when I last used it, running the first ME firmware.
I had the same problem with my v3.0638.0.0.1.. I just changed my Phone Language Settings to Automatic (instead of English) and somehow it worked.. But the alarm only worked if the phone has been off for a couple of hours.. So I suggest to try this trick before going to bed..
