N-Gage QD Reboots on Startup!

Hey. Every time I start up my N-Gage QD, I get the neat little N-Gage Splash Screen, the little message, then my main little thing there that it usually boots up to, that... with the wallpaper and junk. Not even a second on the screen, a message pops up saying:

"App. closed
SysAp"

...and Pew! Power down and stuffles! It actually reboots! Like... white screen... then "Nokia"... then blam! Splash screen, pass Go, collect $200.

The only time it does NOT reboot is when I pull out my 1GB MMC card and plug the N-Gage into the wall. However, when I do this, none of my installed applications appear on the menu and I can't insert a Memory Card. Plus, on top of that, it shows the same message, the "App. Closed" one.

Is there any way I could get this working properly again? Or will I have to format it somehow? I'm pretty sure there's a number you can dial (with the # before the number) that restores factory default and totally wipes the internal memory. I could probably pull out the SIM card and enter the number there. I don't want to resort to this though as I have TONS of important files stored on my N-Gage which I forgot to backup to my Memory Card.

Before the problem happened, I did nothing to the N-Gage QD. I just left it in my pocket and it was working then. Few hours later I pull it out and I noticed the device was turned off. I turned it on only to begin that horrible sight of my dead N-Gage QD... oh my sweet N-Gage QD... how I loveth thee!

Thanks for reading. I'm open to suggestions.

I recomend installing fixqd from almalert.sf.net

Ah I tried getting it over to my N-Gage QD. First off, it won't read Memory Cards so hmm... I can't just put it on my Memory Card.

I tried putting the file on my brother's N-Gage QD to Bluetooth it over but it kept saying "Unable to Connect". Funny thing is, I can send notes and files from the screwed up N-Gage QD (mine) over to his with no problem. O_o I even tried changing the location of the file (moving from Memory Card to Internal Memory) but no luck.

I'm kinda in a fix here...

EDIT: Is there a "Safe Mode" I could boot into?

Do you have a file explorer installed? If you do then delete FirstBoot.dat in C:\System\Data and restart. This is a quick workaround but fixqd will fix the problem forever.

Try unzipping this on to the memory card using the other qd.
It contains fixqd "unsised" so hopefully the phone will load it up on startup allowing you in.
Fexplorer to install fixqd on to phone memory (highly recommened) and to delete FirstBoot.dat
The fixqd sis file.

That fixes the app closed error BUT if it starts when taking out the memory card ; something on your memory card is messing up. Check for installed apps, recogs and libs as well 😊

Good Luck and br.

Ah yeah I do have FExplorer on my N-Gage but like I stated before, none of my installed applications show up in my menu, leaving them absolutely unaccessable. :/ I can't get to the files.

And putting a file on the other N-Gage is bad also seeing as I can't send files to the messed up N-Gage... but the messed up N-Gage can send messages and files to other devices. (So all I can pretty much do with it is say "Help me!"😉

And things got even worse now. Even with the Memory Card out, it'll pull the same stunt. And since I pulled out the battery, I also get the option to set the time each time it reboots. Oh yay!

Ya know... if I manage to get this thing to go into the messed up mode again, I think I'll find a number I can punch in to restore it to Factory Defaults. I don't really feel the need to have those files anymore... I have kinda rewritten them somewhere else... I'll just lose a Pocket Kingdom save game. Oh well.

Oh! If I pull out the SIM card, it'll work fine. Like... sure it won't boot up normally and just tell me to insert a SIM card, but yeah. I noticed however that I can still punch in a phone number. Is there a number I can enter in order to restore to Factory Defaults? I'll just do that instead if so. If ya can get me a code for that, then that'll be all I need. It would be most appreciated.

Thanks for taking your time in trying to help me. I appreciate it quite a bit. 😊

i have the same problem...here is the code....

*#7370# then enter 12345 as the pin code

Ah thanks a lot! I couldn't get it working at the Insert Sim Card screen but I did get it working when I fluked out again and managed to get my desktop thingy to show up without it rebooting. (It got even worse! I couldn't open NOTHING! Not even my Menu without an error! It was a matter of time before my N-Gage woulda been a perma-paper weight) I got it reformatted/factory defaulted and it runs pretty well again. 😃

Lost files? Oh well. I believe my N-Gage IS defective though... it has a hard time reading memory cards in general and whenever I insert one, at random intervals or sometimes just anytime, everytime, it'll say "Memory Card Currupted!" and will NOT read the card at all! But if I inserted it into the other like 3 N-Gages and QDs my brother owns, it works perfectly. O_o

I think I just need a new N-Gage...
