I know this is petty - but it's driving me mad....
I've an N73 on Orange and when I'm at home, the GSM / 3G indicator in the top left of the display changes to an 'E'
What does the 'E' mean? :con?

It means your handset has switched over to GSM (possibly your home is in a 3g black spot) and you have an active internet connection..
you can stop it trying to hook on to a 3G network if you want - it then just stays on GSM. Probably increases battery life aswell I'd think
The 'E' stands for EDGE. EDGE stands for Enhanced Datarates for GSM Evolution. Some call it "2.75G" as it is faster than 2.5G (GPRS) and slower than 3G (WCDMA/UMTS).
In a "regular" GSM/GPRS network coverage range, you'll see a 'G'.
And when in 3G/WCDMA/UMTS range, you see "3G".

How do you disable 3G on Nokia N73? Instead of showing in the left top corner of the phone screen I just want this 3G thing completely off and disappear of my phone.
Follow this steps. Go to Menu, Tools, Settings, Network, select GSM in the Network Mode. Good Luck.
