New utility about Infrared and BT for PC - Take a look :)

30 replies · 4,984 views · Started 31 December 2002

If you are using BT for transfering images etc from 7650 to your PC, you have possibly faced a very bad problem: There is no warning about overwriting! (at least not at Widcomm 1.2.2.16 I am using 😮ops: ).

Even if you are not using BT and you are using Infrared you still need to archive and classify your received files to separate folders (images, text, videos...).

So, I did a small app for PC (Windows32 only 😞 )that does all the above.

It prevents from overwriting, autorenames filenames, auto adding of time and/or date to each received file, and does file separation to different folders (images, text, video, audio, etc).

Read the full information about what it does here , and if you like it, you may download it here (2.1 MBytes zip file).

And -of course- it's free...

(Edit: I had to edit the original post, because I wanted to make clear that this utility is NOT only for BT but for Infrared too. So, if you read the posts after this one, remember that people who posted them, thought that it was all about BT and definitely they are not crazy... Thanks!)

I don't use bluetooth, to connect my 7650, that means i won't use this app. but the fact that you made an app and made it free, is what pushes me to say: 😊 thanx for your work 😊

Hmmm... I wasn't so clear I guess... 😮ops: It does classification and separation of file types, regardless how you transfer them (BT or IR)!

Thanx for your good word!

(zipped you said? Hmmm... RAR isn't OK? 😃 )

Hi sigmacom,

Just a quick note to say great job on the BTIR.

Tested with Windows XP, Gigabyte BTD01 BT adaptor running MSI Widcomm Drivers version 1.2.2.15. (replacing 1.2.2.9 drivers supplied with it)

Everything seems to work well apart from AMR files, which appear to be placed in the outbox root, not that its a big issue, would be nice if they were in the 'Audio' folder though being as that is the native format for the voice recorder on the 7650.

Haven't tried video yet, but I'll let you know soon as I do.

suggestions: (not grumbling - just suggesting - honest 😊 )

possibility to put date/time after filename
UK format date
Abiility to create directory when choosing destination (i.e. new folder)
......

Comes in very handy when you just want to send stuff from your phone and not worry that files are going to overwrite each other. (Incidentally, files on XP don't get overwritten but get suffixed with (1) etc ).

GREAT JOB  Highly Recommended. Shame more people aren't trying it out/responding with feedback.

Thanks for spending the time and effort making this handy little app.

hi sigmacom,

i tried to checkout your site. the link you posted was a readme only. where can i really download the file? i was lost going through your site looking for that single file (BTIR) 😊

hope you can help me with this. thanks.

Hi Pidz111,

Actually the link is there. Where it says 'you may download it here', the 'here' is a hyperlink to the file.

Here is the complete URL in case you are having difficulty....

Sorry for my absence, I was away from home for a couple of days 😞

Thanks SanXion for your feedback!!! 😃
You may download the BETA 0.2 version of this utility that handles AMR files as audio files, and also converts them immediately to WAV. 8)
I will work for the other suggestions/comments you mentioned.

Download the BETA 0.2 version here: http://www.sigmacom.org/go/BTIRFileWatch_Beta0.1.zip

Try to see if you have a key in the registry path "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\Services\004" named "AcceptOther". If this key exists, change it's value to "1" (it should be "0"😉. Also do the same in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\Services\004" and then reboot your computer.
If you don't see the "AcceptOther" key, then maybe you should install an other version of Widcomm... :-?

I will make my util to do automatically all the above settings in the next beta version... 😉

Free software! You people are excellent! A thank-you is all we can give! So a BIG thank-you from myself, Im not using it at the moment, but its good to see a non-MS product in good use!

Thanks a lot, Zipper! 😃

To all people:
Give me feedback and I will make it better and better!

To GuRUMEd:
If you can download a 16.3 MBytes zipped file, I can upload it somewere for you (it's Widcomm 1.2.2.16 which works perfect! 😃 )

Ciao, i'm using and old version of WidComm (1.2.1.9) :-? because there's not a a registry key about "AcceptOther" so, if you can, i'd like to download the 1.2.2.16; just let me know where i can get them.
Thanx!!!
I'm downloading 0.2 version of your software to test! 8)

You can download Widcomm's 1.2.2.16 >>here<<. It's a 16.8 MBytes zipped file. Thanks for testing my util! 😃
Really, why don't you register at AAS? There are a lot benefits as a registered member! 😃

As told before, AMR handling fixed in BETA 0.2. Also added auto conversion to WAV. Your other requests are now available in BETA 0.21, which are:

- Option to choose if Date stamp will be at the beggining or at the end of each file.
- Option to choose if Time stamp will be at the beggining or at the end of each file.
- Option to choose the Date stamp format (ddmmyyyy, mmddyyyy, yyyymmdd, yyyyddmm where "yyyy" is 4-digits for year, "mm" is 2-digits for month and "dd" is 2-digits for day.)
- Option to choose the Time stamp format (HHmm or HHmmss, where "HH" is hours in 24h-format, "mm" is minutes and "ss" is seconds).
- Automatically sets the "AcceptOther" registry key for Widcomm's software (if the SW version you are using supports it).
- Added a "New..." button to create new folder while choosing destination
- Shows the SW version of BTIR util at the window's caption.

You can see the screenshoot below:
User posted image

and download ONLY the executable file >>here<< (zipped file, 31.2 kBytes) assuming that you have already installed the BETA 0.2 version previously 😉 After downloading, you should extract the exe file from the zip, and replace the old BTIRFileWatch.exe.

Thanks to all of you.
Waiting for feedbacks from all people tested this util! 😃

OUH! GREAT! First the app is great! And it's free too! Secondary I wan't to thank you for your advise about the reg-editing. Now I can send files stright from the phone (I was wondering why I wasn't able to do that, PROBLEM SOLVED) 😃 ! Thanks!!! You're the man! 8)

Yesterday i downloaded 1.2.2.15 somewhere and i finally got my BT works fine!
As you can see i'm a regged user now 😊

BTW.. yesterday i tried the net-surf with 7650 connected to my PC via BT using the ADSL connection on my PC! It's work great and without gprs connection.. simply using the pc as gateway for the 7650!

An offtopic question... is it possible to program the irda to let the 7650 open a automatic-gate (knowing the ir code to open it) ?

Welcome to the forum GuRUMEd!
About your question: can you please be more specific? What do you want to do?

Excuse me if was not clear!

Is it possible to write an application that send programmable infrared-code using the 7650 irda?
Why that? Because will be fun to use the 7650 as IR remote-command.
Maybe mine is only a shitty so.. nevermind 😊

Well, I don't know C++ to write a program for 7650. I have in mind exactly how this IR commander will work (program workflow algorithm) but I can't write it in C++ 😞 If there is a C++ developer around, I can give him my ideas 😉

I'm trying to get my phone work with widcomm software and GPRS and I can't. I had an old version, I downloaded the last (1.2.2.16) and I still can't connect to GPRS. I send and receive files from my phone properly, but GPRS is very important for my and for my job and I can't get it work!
Is there anyone who uses GPRS connection and Widcomm software? I would be grateful if he could help me. Sigmacom, I see you're an expert in Bluetooth staff, maybe you could help me..?
