Help: Cannot remove application?

5 replies · 3,001 views · Started 03 March 2007

I have an E61, latest firmware.

I had installed but now uninstalled Opera Mini. It no longer appears under App Manager, but in the Installations folder its icon is still there. Clicking on it has no effect, and when I try to select options-remove I get the error message "Unable to delete Opera Mini".

If I re-install, I get a SECOND identical Opera Mini icon that does work and run the program when clicked, but the first icon also stays there as well. Uninstalling again only removes the newer icon, leaving the older one behind as before.

Is there any way to tinker under the hood of the operating system in order to manually delete defunct icons from the Installations folder? I cannot seem to get deep-level access like that, and I don't know where to look through all the various system folders to find whatever entry controls the system folders.

Any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks?

I have YBrowser and have looked around, but have been unable to find which folder holds the icon settings. I have moved the Opera Mini icon to another folder, but it will still not let me remove it altogether from there. Same error message occurs upon trying to delete.

The only places where i found opera mini related stuff (using y-browsr) on my C drive(where i installed it) are in;
C:/Nokia/Others
C:/System/Apps
and
C:/System/data
..
i also just discovrd you could try going to C:/System/Install/Registry -this shows all of the java software installed in ur phone. Each of the files here have the .reg extension. If you open any of the files with the text viewer of the y-browser- it will show information about the file ,along with a uid number(its alphanumeric)
Just thought that with the uid-number it could help you identify the opera mini application and delete the icon.Though i havnt tried deleting since my opera mini is working well and i have only 1copy in the phone.

Here is how i removed my applications when I was having problems....

1) I backed up my information and formated the memory

2) Reboot your phone

good luck

i will try the above mentioned methods in the future😊

Someone mentioned something like this on one of the threads ,i'm not sure which ones. But the guy said it was his Themes that didn't want to remove and that they kept on showing even when he had deleted them.
The solution seemd to only work if you had the problem from the memory card (cuz thats where the guy installed his themes)
So this would probably only work if the installed location of the opera mini is in your memory card.,uninstall the opera mini first.
The solution was to connect the phone to the PC and put it into 'mass storage mode/Data transfer mode ' -you have to make sure the windows explorer view setting is set to 'show hidden files' ,.and open the private folder of your removable drive(the phone) ,i'm not sure what next but i think you check each of folders in the private folder and any one that has anything opera mini related you yank it out.
Then put your phone back on,install the opera mini,.you should now have only one copy of it.
p:s:- if its not the private folder you could check any of the other hidden folders that show up..and then remove anything opera mini related.
This is all possible if the location of installation of the opera mini you installed was on your memory card.
