Nokia shift to USA strategy?

Nokia has released details of a 'realignment of its North America sales and marketing organization'. Which, as far as I can see, basically means moving all its staff to New York. I see Stefan has a similarly sceptical view on the announcement...

If I read this correctly the main news is that they've appointed a new head of the American branch of Nokia:

"Mark Louison, the current head of Nokia's networks business in North America, has been appointed to head Nokia's devices business in the area as of July 1, 2007. As of April 1, Mr. Louison will also become President of Nokia Inc., the North American arm of Nokia"

The networks business which he used to run in America is the smaller part of Nokia that does things like phone masts, whereas the devices side is the much larger handset arm of Nokia.

Anything Nokia can do to increase Symbian usage in America is to be welcomed. Unfortunately many Americans are under the impression that a smartphone is something that runs Windows Mobile and that Windows Mobile is a good operating system. That idea needs to be corrected 😉

I think most Americans (and Europeans for that matter) have a very shaky idea of what a smartphone is, exactly.

I've seen several high profile American news sites claim a smartphone is "a phone that can access the internet", which is complete nonsense as practically any phone (even non-smart ones) have GPRS or other internet access.

It's the same kind of journalists who think email wasn't possible before the blackberry.
