Hi,

Does the nokia 7650 supports firmware? So can you upgrade for example the symbian os to a higer versin when one becomes available?
And what about WAP? Can you upgrade that too to 2.0 an xhtml?
A friend of me has a nokia 7650 but i cant find anything about upgrading the firmware versin in the manual wich comes with the phone. Also the nokia website doesn't mention anything about firmware upgrades??
Can anywone help me find this informaion?
I need to know for sure if the belgian nokia 7650 supports firmware upgrades (or even other OS than symbian) adn how you can make these upgrades by yourself...

Thanx already,

Boeky.

Of course you can upgrade the firmware. Most of the 7650's around are on v 3.16,now in Singapore they have v 4.39.I dont think that you can upgrade to a higher version of the Symbian OS because of hardware dependancies. You cant make the upgrades yourself (With usingn IR or BT)
Youd need the proper hardware for that (Nokia Flash Box).Go to your local NSC,they will do the upgrade for you.
And NO! The only OS for the 7650 will be Symbian 😃

Thanx for all that info. That solved most things I needed to know 😊
Can you buy that Nokia Flash Box somewhere?

And what about the new WAP 2.0 and XHTML Can you update this? Cause actualy the GPRS hardware is available so it's just a software upgrade isn't it?

Also I wondered if there might be a way in the future to support that phone with a memory card or a bigger memory chip. Cause that's the only bad remark I can give on the nokia 7650. The nokia 3650 supports all thes good features but the design sucks. In the past they ware able to support old phones like nokia 3210 with GPRS and Trill function so there might be a way to support the nokia 7650 with a memory card. At least i hope so 😊

Boeky

Yes, you can buy a flash box it costs something like 500$
Search google for it. Or All About Symbian 😃

WAP 2.0 and XHTML are not available, *might* come though, dont know.

More memory is a possibility, but not from Nokia.
Search All About Symbian for more info.

So far all the possibilities of memory expansion (in the 7650) were failures (the ones i remember) long ago, a member called milliinuem was able to boost the 7650's memory, but it wasn't completly functional, it couldn't recieve or dial calls. Other people tried, and ended up with busted up 7650s that went straight to the trash can!

So far, the most safest way probably, is the Bluetooth Hard Drive called Hop Bit by Toshiba, a 5 GB pocket hard drive that might work with the 7650 if the nessecary software was available.

Search around, you'll find many threads of what i just posted about! 😃
