Does anyone (besides me) have a problem with "battery life," I mean length of time the phone holds a full charge? I bought a new E70 in November and have constantly had to recharge on a daily basis--sometime twice a day. It's been into Nokia service twice and had two different Nokia batteries.
Even sitting in stand-by mode it's dead in about eight to twelve hours.
The product specs state standby time of 14 days and WLAN standby time of 8 days. So, could I be doing something wrong?😮
Thanks for the feedback.
I've had my e70 for well over a year now and use the WiFi regularly and send/receive a few thousand text messages each month and my battery life is amazing.
When was the manufacture date on your phone/battery and what is your reception like at your place?
Wirelessly posted (Nokia E70: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.0.6560/1630; en; U; ssr))
It should be dead that fast.
In standby mine can take up to 5days.
And i havent had my battery changed before.

I think he meant shouldn't here.

thanks.
Sorry i meant it shouldnt be dead that fast.
Iv had mine for more than 5months now..and on a full charge ;in standby it takes abt 5-6days
Well, from what I've seen here (and on other E70 related forums), this phone is a mixed bag when it comes to battery life. Most users seem to have no significant problem with their batteries, but several posters do. I'm on my second unit--sent to me as a replacement by Nokia--and it won't even hold a charge for six hours--that's just with its sitting on the desk and not even being used!
So, what's different? EDGE vs. GSM (Cingular vs T-Mobile). What sort of software has been added to the basic Nokia suite? (Epocware "Handy" things, Lonely Cat Games Juke Box and ProfiMail?)
There has to be some explanation and Nokia doesn't seem to be willing to explore the issue and offer any specific remedies.
That's why it comes down to trial and error and seeking the advice from common users--the lucky one and those like me who have to keep close to the power outlets!
Thanks guys 😉
well my e61 has been dying a lot recently, i wonder if weather has a factor because i know these batteries cant take the cold.
Mine lasts for a few days... depending on use, of course. WiFi and games kill the battery, MP3 playing doesn't draw that much power...
You may have gotten a faulty battery / battery meter inside the phone
Do you have a 3G coverage? If not, or if the signal is weak the phone will try to log in to 3G network if the AUTOMATIC NETWORK SELECTION is chosen. That uses a lot of battery power.
Also regular automatic email downloads (and any other data transfer, especially in conditions mentioned above) drains the battery quickly.

What he said. Make it GSM only and turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi checking and then let us know what difference the changes make.

So, change 'Network mode' from 'Dual Mode' to 'GSM' ??
The other option is 'UMTS' and I assume this is 3G then?
(I'm using T-Mobile USA if that matters)
Yes. Dual mode is UMTS first, when none then GSM. SO the phone is always looking for a UMTS network.
Change it to GSM only.
(It depends on the location though. I live in a basement flat and have almost no GSM signal, but 3G signal is excellent, so in my case it works exactly opposite - in GSM only mode the phone is trying continously to connect to the network and drains the battery. In DUAL MODE everything is fine.)

I've noticed that sometimes when I'm in a basement or something that my phone switches to 3G too.
I'm sorry, but I need a little help. I have yet to find how to change the settings. I'm a Cingular (US) customer and I don't believe we had 3G, just GSM. So I don't want my E70 trying to find a 3G do I? Would this lead to lower battery life? So, how do I disable this?
Thank you !
Michael 😊

Menu > Tools > Settings > Network > Network Mode
(don't select dual mode)

Thanks, but when I menu down as you suggest, I find that the only setting I have under "Network Mode" is "Cell Info Display" (yes/no).
So, I suspect that here in the U.S. our carriers (at least Cingular) haven't gotten their act together enough to offer us 3G. So we're stuck with single mode--GSM? :con?
Guess that's not an issue as far as battery drain is concerned!
Thanks again,
Michael
The number one "waster" of battery, believe it or not, is the Proxy server... it forces Mail For Exchange in particular to have keep the connection going.
On the "east coast" the proxy is "needed" for a connection to be more reliable if you are on an E70-1 (aka, one with 3G or UMTS, typically silver), if you are on an E70-2 (aka, one for the US markets, typically black), you should be ok to get rid of it.
To fix this issue, here's what to do
1) Menu
2) Tools
3) Settings
4) Connection
5) Access Points
6) New Access Point - Use Existing Settings (and pick MediaNet or Cingular-GPRS etc)
7) Name it MediaNet/NoProxy or something obvious
8) Options - Advanced
9) Clear out Proxy Serv. Address and port
10) Back (to save)
11) Back (to save)
You are done.
Make sure your browser and MailForExchange use the new ProxyLess connection.
On my E70-1, it nearly doubles battery life.

I have found that a major source of battery drain has been my WLAN connection, but when I attempt to turn the WLAN connection off, it disconnects and immediately re-connects. I can't get the LAN connection to stay OFF.
I go to Connection Manager | Act. Conns. | click on the LAN connection (Options: Disconnect) is disconnects and within a second or two it comes right back up! 😡
Thanks,
Michael
Hey guys thanks alot i changed my setting from dual band to just GSM and getting longer batter life...feel bad for blaming the Canadian weather now 😛

As South Park taught us: 'Blame Canada!'

I'm sorry to be so "challenged" here, but how does one change the settings from dual band to just GSM? I can't seem to find any such menu option.
Thanks mucho! :con?
