On my Nokia N73 I selected to save my SMS messages on my memory card. Does anyone know where _exactly_ Symbian places this files on the memory card? Want to backup them but can't find the files...

For backing up messages, use the backup feature of the Memory app, or the backup feature of Nokia PC Suite, or use the PC Suite app Messages.
Of course, you can make a copy of the entire card using an USB memory card reader, or by connecting the phone to your PC using USB mass storage mode (instead of, e.g., PC Suite mode). That might not be a very reliable way for backing up messages, though.
In any case, you will find the messages somewhere under \private on the memory card (but not in a human readable form).
