Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem I am...
When I power off my phone and turn it back on. When the Phone starts up (after the "Nokia" splash) it requests to enter the time and date (defaults to 9am and Sept. 1,2006). I know this normally happens when the battery is taken out for a long time, but in my case I didn't even remove the battery cover, I just simply turned the phone back on and off. It happens each time the phone is switched off.
My previous Nokia phones at least gave you a minute or two to change your sim or memory card, and it still remembered the time and date.
Here are my N80ie's particulars:
V 4.0632.0.38
13-10-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (12)
I've done a soft reset (*#7780#), that didn't fix it although it remembered the date and time at startup. I also did a firmware re-install through NSU, still the same problem, can't remember the time and date after powering the phone off. I guess if other users are experiencing the same thing, then it's not a problem. It's just annoying knowing that previous Nokia models don't have this problem.
Thanks in advance.
Never heard of this before. Is it the only setting that goes back to the 'new' position when you turn the phone off?
As a complete stab in the dark, have you got the time set to auto-update? Whilst I've not had any problems with it on the N80 it did cause some fairly freaky behaviour with my N70 (although it's a network reliant operation and I haven't changed my network).
Only the time and date reset. Everything else holds (time and date format, time zone, all my regular phone settings, profile are kept). I've always had the "Network Operator Time" set to off, I tried setting it on after realizing this time and date reset problem to see if that remedied it, but it doesn't work.
I think my N80 started doing this when I inserted a 2GB mini SD card, all it did was freeze/hang my phone, so I just kept the 512 card that came with the phone. Have you heard of any problems arising from using 2GB cards?
Thanks for the reply.
they'll be sumat broken for sure
not heard of any problems arising from 2GB cards, unless they are dodgy ones... but the problems that arise are normally only to do with the MMC and memory issues.

I'm using a 2GB card and haven't had any problems with it.

yup, mines a mobymemory 2GB one.. all good.
My N80 also resets date & time after only swithing off and straight back on again.

Nokia N80 (02)
Any help would be appreciated
will i face same problem when the battery die
its gota be back up battery is fubar'd
yeah, if the only problem is loosing the date / time when you tun off then the onboard battery sounds like the issue
The strange things is that it only happens when I manually switch the phone off - When the battery dies and I switch the phone on again (sometimes after a couple of hours) my phone remembers the date and time :con?
Thanks for all the replies...
I brought my N80 to a Nokia Service Center and they replaced my backup battery, and now the time and date doesn't reset anymore. So the problem was the backup battery. I guess it's a bad assumption that the main battery is being used to maintain the time and date when the phone is switched off.
Does anyone know if the backup power for Nokia's is an actual battery or a capacitor? (wasn't able to ask Nokia directly) Capacitors could be more prone to shorts/surges, might explain why my backup battery died so soon.
Interesting to note as well that the only thing the backup battery seems to power (in this case) is the date and time since the phone didn't go back to the factory default entirely. I wonder if that's something to do with it remembering to activate any set alams even when the the phone is switched off.
Bumping this thread as my N80 has just started to do this last week...
A couple of months ago I had some success repairing my own N80 after the screen kep going white (I replaced the ribbon cable connecting the screen and board). Brave I know! But it worked.
BUT... Why has it started to require date and time entry every after every "power on"?
I suspect as mentioned that there is a power cell in the phone in addition to the traditional larger battery.
I can't recall the inside of the phone too well... and don't want to re-open it unless I know it will be worth the hassle of trying to work out how to put it back together again!
Is there one of those small cells inside? Any idea on the size etc?
Thanks
😊
