(more) problems with firmware updater!!

1 replies · 3,081 views · Started 26 March 2007

I'm trying to update the firmware on my unbranded N73.

Product code: 0539101
Current firmware: V 3.0638.0.0.1
RM-133

Trying to update to 3.0704.1.0.1 using the latest version of Nokia Updater 1.4.30en(downloaded from Nokia site today)

Everytime I try to update, I get a message saying that there is no phone connected to the computer (I am connecting with USB cable).

I have no problems using PC Suite with the phone, and am able to sync my calendar with Outlook, so the phone and computer are clearly communicating.

When I start the updater, the N73 is connected according to PC Suite. I get to a screen with the following message:

Preparing update

Searching for a connected phone...

As soon as that screen comes up, the status in PC suite changes to 'no phone connected'.

After about 30 secs, I get a screen saying "Unable to find phone"

As soon as I exit the updater, the phone reconnects to the computer. I have read on the Nokia support site that the phone may disconnect whilst it is updating, but surely they mean once the process is running?

I'm running Windows XP. Have checked all firewall settings, and allowed all Nokia programs.

Not sure how to fix this?

Any ideas out there?

Thanks
