I sincerely hope I am not reading on well-worn ground with this question -- if I am, please point me in the direction of the thread that can answer my question and I will be on my way!
I have an N70, bought about 5 months ago in Moscow. Last week, when I was in Helsinki (ironic, I guess), the message notification system stopped working -- my phone does not vibrate or beep when a new message comes in, nor does it show me a delivery receipt for a sent message. Interestingly, when I reboot the phone, it will show me all fo the delivery receipts since the last restart.
I thought perhaps the culprit was my ginormous trove of SMSs, so I nuked them: that didn't solve the problem. I've looked at my profiles in and out, and they do not seem to be the problem either -- I am not working in silent mode, and I do have the phone set to beep on a message as well as vibrate.
I went to the flagship Nokia store in Moscow last night, but they were baffled as well, and recommended me to go round the corner to the service center -- the line was a mile long, so I thought I'd do some work myself, but via google, nokia.com/etc. I have not been able to find a solution to this problem.
Any ideas?
Have you tried a soft reset? *#7370# brings your phone in the same way like it was when it got out of the box.

Thanks -- I will give this a try. Will I lose any data, or just my settings?
You lose all the data stored on phone's memory. Make a backup before this, at least for calendar/ contacts if not a full one.

it's asking fora lock code -- any idea what this is?
It's either you phone lock code, or 12345 if you didn't changed it. Note that after reset, your lock code will become 12345.

same with me here, anybody can helps us. i've tried everything. update firmware, hard format (with 3 keys - send button, 3 and *) but still the problem exist. :con?
