Firmware fried my Contacts

This is a long post, so bear with me.

Hello all,
I have a Nokia N73. I changed its product code to the Internet Edition and updated its firmware respectively. This was about ~2-3 months ago. Since then I have added many contacts and programs. Now I noticed there was a new Music Edition firmware. So I backed up my phone with the Backup feature on Nokia PC Suite and on the Memory application on the phone. I flashed the new firmware flawlessly.

I restored with both methods.

Now, I have no contacts. And about half of my programs are gone. A lot of them are in the Application Manager as "Not installed". But when I try to install them most of them return an error "Unable to Install" ...

As for my contacts, the phone shows no contacts on the memory, sim, or phone.

Luckily for me, Shozu auto-backupped my contacts, so all I have to do is reinstall it and restore them. But what about my applications?

Thanks,
Greg

Could the problem be resolved by reflashing my internet edition firmware? Or will that just enhance the badness.

Hi,

I backed up my phone with PC Suite before the flash. After the flash my contacts had gone. I restored from the backup and hey presto as you would expect my contacts are back.

It does advise you to backup your phone before you flash are you sure you did it right ?

It also states you may lose the applications you installed and you may get some new ones included with the flash. Really you should have kept the apps in case you needed to reinstall. As with everything you upgrade, read the instructions/release notes and backup, backup, backup or woe is you! 😉

Which version of the IE firmware were you updating from?

There were 2 or 3 early N73 firmwares which had a backup / restore bug, which did exactly what you've described.

Do a test backup / restore on your new ME firmware to make sure everything is now ok.

I updated from version Version 3.0638.0.0.43 - INTERNET EDITION (China / Hong Kong & Taiwan only) to Version 3.0705.1.0.31 - MUSIC EDITION

What should I do about my contacts? Should I test backup/restore now and then restore from the old IE backup?
