Can't help re WMP11, don't like it and don't use it. I just drag and drop the files and playlist using the file explorer, or using a card reader through windows explorer.
Nokia N95 - The Music Review
PaulyLaw - I think - I haven't tried this - that you need to use Smart Sync / advanced Sync to do this. This is where you specify certain playlists to be synced (rather than dragging and dropping). Its the same place where you specify random syncs etc.
Right Click on Sync -> Nokia N95 -> Set Up Sync in WM 11 to do this.
(Oggplay/pocket ogg is a) not free, b) Only plays Ogg Vorbis files and c) pretty amature IMO).
You are talking about PocketOgg, not OggPlay. OggPlay is free and quite happily plays whatever formats the phone supports (.mp3, .wma etc)
Major let down 2) - uPNP. What a wasted opportunity!!! You have to copy the files over to the N95 before you can play them. Do Nokia even realise what uPnP what designed for FFS? Again, just take a look a Pocket Player (or other fine examples) to see how it should be done with the ability to play the files live streamed off the network.
I'm not 100% sure what you mean by uPNP. What I'd like to see is for my phone to log in to my Windows network (via. Wi-fi obviously) and access my shared folders, just like my laptop does. Can the N95 do this?
If you mean the ability to setup an audio server on the PC and stream music to the phone over Bluetooth / Wi-fi, then OggPlay has support for this. Unfortunately once again it's in "beta test" and only available on a P900 at the moment.

Yes, but will it play MP3 gapless?
UPnP is "Universal Plug And Play". It's a method of streaming media around your home to compliant devices seemlessly. You run a uPnP server on a PC on your network. You set it up and it scan the folders you tell it to which can contain your music and/or Videos and and/or photo's. And devices on the network can connect and browse and view the files seemlessly. There are load of devices around that support this now, such as the Roku soundbridge streamer. I have software on my PDA phone which does this and it allows me play my 40gig+ music collection andywhere around my house, though headphones or by plugging it into my HiFi. I can just browse my PC's harddrive on my MDA, but uPnP makes it seemless and quick and easy - the device just see's the files as if they are on the device itself.
The N95 is uPnP compatible, however it does not make full use of it. It can few the files, but not play them until to have waited ages to copy it over the network first. The uPnP functionality of the N95 is basically crippled.
There are loads of free uNpN software around, have a look at www.tversity.com
Yes, but will it play MP3 gapless?
The short answer is no.
Thanks for the info. I guess uPnP is the same as Microsoft networking but for all devices, not just Microsoft ones. If that's the case then it's a real shame that it's messed up on the N95.
Having trouble getting Album art from Win Media 11 to show in player. What do we need to do?
Is it possible to listen to music while routing? And if it is, is the voice Navigation also possible while listening to music?
It looks like there may be a non-SDHC 4Gb card on the way. Could work with the N95: - http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4159987
but still cant get nokia music manager(n91) to work on the n95!! I cannot get my mac to get beyond 'device not available", any ideas on how to get my mac to recognise the n95 and memory card? O do i just wait a lifetime for nokia to put out the updated music manager?!
cheers

ok - am running the filter on my mac - works a treat and am seriously thinking of upgrading to the n95 - but wondering how well/intuitive it is on the phone...
I recently purchased a N95 and recently downloaded some music from Napster, which worked flawlessly transferring over to the Nokia N95.
However, the only problem I'm currently having is displaying Album Art on my N95.
For some reason, when I play music, its not showing any album art.Am I missing something??
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks
The cover art must be built into the id3 tag, not just put into the folder as you get with many downloads...
You can do this very quickly and very free using album cover downloader availabl at
http://louhi.kempele.fi/~skyostil/projects/albumart/
or using a music organiser... I think media monkey's one of the better library organisers around but purely for album art you can't beat that stand-alone..
And the network streaming to N95 thing is exactly what I was trying to do when I found this :S
Hi, i recently got n95 on t-mobile i have downloaded some music tracks via t-mobile internet i stored the tracks on my memory card in playlist file. i can play the tracks seperatly no probs! but when i go to the music player fuction and want to create a playlist i cant figure out how to add these downloaded tracks to a playlist! track that have been bluetoothed to me are no problem it is just tracks that i have downloaded. If you could help me with this would be very grateful!
Have you tried, Clicking Options - Refresh library? This adds all of the audio files copied to your phone to the library.
I'm experiencing quite a bit of white noise during audio playback...
I've been testing with all sorts of different headsets - and the results are the same.
Has anyone experienced this? And - even better - does anyone have a fix??
My phone is updated to the newest firmware...

Me too. I hope it's a matter of playback and not a grounding problem. The first could be solved with a firmware update (I hope), the later can be solved by buying a new phone!
If you're on the bus using crappy earplugs, perhaps this doesn't matter. But if you have a pair of good headphones this is a huge dealbreaker.

The largest shortcoming of "music phones" is PC music library integration. The combination of iPod and iTunes is unbeatable. Library and playlist management is vastly easier on a computer, with its QWERTY+mouse+large display, than on a phone. Add in iTunes' ease of use and its special features, such as smart playlists, and its automatic synchronization of playlists with the iPod. No other device offers this; drag'n'drop is for suckers, as is manually recreating playlists on a phone (ugh), and repeating this every time the music is changed.
Hopefully, Nokia's N91 iTunes plug-in works on the N95. Otherwise, the iPod isn't going anywhere.
Thanks guys for this rather impresive article you guys produced. Keep up the good work.
Hi there. I see you indicate that AUDIBLE PLAYER will work on the N95. I can't get it to work. What can you suggest? Any help would be appreciated. Otherwise, I think this is the perfect phone.
Thanks
You are absolutely right about annoying background noice (hissing sound) in N95 player. Several time asked about this /whether improved in future updated firmware../, e-mailing to Nokia Support but no response! Does anyone care about problems like this raised in this forum? Lets hope for the best.
