Flashing Dead Phone

Was upgrading the firmware when the cable came loose and the phone died. 😡

So the phone was then dead, wouldnt turn on at all anyone had similar problems??

But  managed to get it working after all. Had to reflash it while phone was off. Lucky for me it worked.

Did you do anything special, or just use NSU.

For me, when the N80 is plugged in, the PC just sees an "unknown device" - also tried phoenix which I can't get to work either

Story so far ->
I managed to brick my Nokia N80, previously running v4.0632.0.38 IE (updated using NSU, with product code changed to one of the Euro 1 N80IEs from 3UK)

NSU failed part way through an 0707 update. After offering to retry it eventually gave up. Turns out my cable has broken - it no longer clips, although I can get a solid connection by mounting at an angle.... 😞 Anyway that's the reason.

So I installed phoenix 2007 (another thread) and am trying the dead phone recovery.

In device manager I see an "unknown device" which is detected when the N80 is plugged in - but with a blank screen. This driver is working properly, but has no drivers.

If I start phoenix I was able to go into MANAGE CONNECTIONS and add a USB connection - which was found ok.

After selecting product code (with the 0638 fw files downloaded) if I select firmware update / phone as manufactured, there's a long delay, and then the product code "0539363: EURO 1" / SW version 4.0621.0.38 is displayed. Does this mean the phone is partly alive?

If I select Product->Phone information I get "error while reading info data" - Invalid pointer.

If I try the flash I get Product types do not match. You have specified RM-92 type but actual the type is (unknown). Then I get "FLS device not detected", then "Cmt->Trying to verify communication 1 of 8". Eventually "Product mode changing before flashing to normal failed and the phone is also not in ADL mode"

If I go back to manage connections and select no connection, then retry with "deadl phone USB flashing" I get "No prommer device or USB detected" / Programming Device initializing failed. ... If USB dead flash use: BOOT_ROM_USB_FLASH.

Any ideas? Seems as if there is a tiny bit of life in there and it may just be the wrong sequence I'm using ?

I did try this on 2 PCs (XP and Vista) - both cleaned beforehand.

Thanks!

I simply used nsu. Obvioulsy as the phone was dead it wouldnt turn on. But plugging in the data cable into the pc while connected to the phone you can see that windows recognizes some sort of device has been added. From there I just ran nsu. It may take some time to run but when it finished the screen on the phone came back to life and showed nokia.

Hope it works for you too.

Sadly not. Actually it got further than I expected. When I restarted it, it did 9after a delay) correctly detect a connected N80!!!

However when it tried to flash it paused and then "connection to phone lost"

Happens every time.

I think I found the reason for failure - cable wasn't broken. I'd used my 6630's DKU-2 cable rather than the CA-53 which fits the N80 snugly.

major oops.

of course maybe NSU stores some "state" information so it remembered it had failed this update, so was just offering to restart just in case.

Yep - just checked, it does this even with the USB disconnected!!!

How do you mean when you say remembers state information. When I flashed mine, I did so after completly restarting the nsu software. So basically it failed hallfway through updating then I swore a bit and closed nsu. Think I restarted the computer then tried again from scratch. If I remember right when I retried it, it didnt try to "repair" as such but just started ato update the phone from the beginning.

Hi,

I just have installed Nokia Software Updater for N80 Internet Edition.

I followed the instructions, The firmware version of my N80 were going to change from 4.0632.0.38 to 5.0719.0.2.

Almost at the end of the process, I had to take out the battery, then disconnect the usb cable, after that put the battery, turn on the phone and connect the usb cable.....

But, at this time.... the phone didnt start up....

I am really worry because even though I tried to charge the battery, the phone doesnt turn on any led.... Is now a dead phone....

Please help me with some advices.....
