N73 ME issues

I'm posting a combination of two previous posts, hoping to get a reply...

I upgraded to ME 3.0705.1.0.31 recently. Everything went fine until I restored my back up from the memory card. On rebooting, the phone wouldn't get past the Nokia logo on start-up. Had to remove the battery to switch off. Pressing down [and holding down] the Green+3+* buttons while switching on resolved the problem. All data restored, except the phone book. Luckily that was backed up on my pc. Phone is running much smoother now, but not sure exactly which bugs have been fixed.

When using special characters [, , , etc] in sms's, it still uses about 2 to 3 parts to send the message, even when it's just a couple of lines long.

My main issue however, when receiving 3GP video clips, a huge white border appears around the outside. When sending the same clip to my old 6600, this doesn't happen. 3GP's are converted into 3G2's during mms download. Anybody knows what that means?

Try and explain this to either Nokia or my Network provider... Well, need I say more. [Where they manage to find the level of incompetance to employ at their call centres are beyond me!] Nokia blames the Network and vice versa...

Anyone got info or solutions to either these problems? When sms'ing in my home language, I use special characters quite frequently. The problem was not present in the old generation phones.

After the upgrade, my speed dialing has now stopped working as well. Cannot open the speed dial app and nothing happens when pressing & holding a speed dial button. It is activated in call settings.

It seems that the song skip button on the headset still not works in MusicPlayer. Works fine with radio & hands-free dialing. Firmware bug?

The N73 has a QVGA (240 by 320 pixels) resolution display. The 6600 has a 176x208 pixel display. If you have the same resolution video displaying on a 6600 and then on an N73, then the video will seem smaller (more empty space around it).

I don't know about speed dialing problems. You could try reformatting the phone in case it clears the problem.

As to SMS, check the "Character encoding" setting value under Options > Settings > Text message in the Messaging app on your N73. Possible values are "Full support" and "Reduced support" and it impacts how the message text is encoded (Unicode or default SMS "alphabet"😉.
