E61 Problems after firmware update

After updating the E61 firmware to 3.0633.09.04 there are the following problems:
1) Restore from card restores only a small number of the installed programs.
2) When the phone is switched on it tries to install the rest of the programs but aborts after about 5 minutes and advises to install them via Application Manager
3) Application Manager announces "Unable to install" for theses programs, as if parts of them were still present blocking re-installation;
4) Keyboard has changed from English to German (Umlauts at the right hand side now, punctuation shifted to the left hand side). Changing phone language and writing language to English via Tools/Settings/Phone/General has no effect.

Is there anybody among you who could give me advice on how to overcome these problems ?
Thanks in advance
Severin

Hi Severin. I had similar problems, but this was before upgrading the firmware. For issue 1 and 2, I simply formatted the memory card, then I upgraded my firmware; since then, no problems 😊

I didn't experience the keyboard issue so I cannot be of much help there.

That's all "normal". The firmware upgrade and backup/restore system in S60 is currently still a complete mess and doesn't do half of what it should do properly. Regarding the missing applications and the "unable to install" message, I've described how to solve your problem here: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showpost.php?p=285700&postcount=2

Note that even if you follow my guide (which might take you a while if you've got loads of applications installed that have not been restored properly) it's likely that none of your Java applications will work anymore so you'll have to re-download, re-install and re-configure all of them. Also, it's likely that you won't be able to restore some of your native applications so you'll have to re-download, re-install, re-register and re-configure them as well. So instead of trying to restore your applications from the backup, you might want to just re-format the memory card and start from scratch. It usually takes me a whole day of work to restore my phone to where it was before the upgrade whenever i do a firmware upgrade.

No idea what's wrong here, sorry.

Dear fyrestrtr and elp: thanks very much for your information. The problems I face seem to be a general one of the update system. I think I will re-install from scratch. I will repost the keyboard layout problem to see if it catches the eye of somebody who has experienced the same. Best regards

Hello,
Are you sure, that you updated with an English firmware?
I think, your smartphone got a German firmware.

I bought an English E70 with Hungarian firmware (because I am Hungarian). I can change back the language to English, but NOT the keyboard layout. It is in the firmware (at least deeper than a simple switch) so I have őű and all of this in capitals...
