P800 - Citrix ICA Client

22 replies · 11,577 views · Started 03 January 2003

Hello,

I've ordered the P800, but it hasn't arrived yet.. I'm VERY curious about the current Citrix ICA Client on the Software CD, how well does this client work? I can't see any new Symbian Citrix client on www.citrix.com, and I'm dying to know how well it works on the P800. The Citrix client is the only reason I bought this phone. 😊

If anyone have tried it, please let me know 😊

Thanks
Terje

I personally would have waited to play with the software before ordering the phone if that specific piece of software was the only reason I was buying one 😊

And are U expecting to do much on a 320x208 window without kbd input?
I played with citrix in a N9210 with 620x200 and keyboard and it only served to demonstrate (to me) that for daily professional use VGA res is still the bare minimum required.

I just got mine the day before yesterday 😃
I'm also very interested in p800-citrix.
Regarding some comment on the usefullness: I agree that it would probably be tiresome to use p800 as a daily tool for ICA sort of work. But that still means that in extraordinary cases one is still not "naked" whilst away from the office if you see what I mean.
(Oh, one mor thing. I have no Citrix to try it on 😮ops: )

I didnt find any Citrix ICA client on my two Cdes, could anyone tell me were to find it?

Very usefull even if it's small and difficult.. (stop and start services, change small things etc.. I use it for management when I play golf.)
BUT, people do report it's not on the two cds, and I can't find much information from the SE website. (At the start they said it would INCLUDE the citrix client...)

Once I get it I'll tell you all how well it's working. (unless I get the software on the CD, I'll use the symbian one at www.citrix.com)

Cheers,
T

Hello Terje,

Im as curious as you about the Citrix client to P800.
Did you manage to find anything?

I tried to install the Citrix Symbian client in P800 made for Nokia, but without any success.

Very dissapointed with SE now.. I remember viewing the SE P800 product page, and it said the citrix client would be installed by standard. Now, it looks like it's not even supported.

This is the respons I got from SE Service Center:
--CUT MAIL---
Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson.

Regarding your enquiry, we have contacted Citrix directly and they have informed us that the P800 client has yet to be commissioned. The Nokia one is therefore the only one currently available. Until we have been informed otherwise by our Research and Development department, we are unable to comment on when such a facility will be fully supported by the P800.

For further information on Sony Ericsson products and services, please visit our website http://www.sonyericsson.com and if you have any further enquiries please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind Regards,

Just got off the phone with Citrix R&D group, and they verified that this is not true. The Citrix Client does not work on the P800, nor do citrix have any plans to create one due to the limited screen size. (Wouldn't be usable)

I remember reading on the SE P800 product page that it would come with Citrix ICA client, and I feel RIPPED OFF..... This was the only reason I purchased this phone, may sound crazy... But that is how much I need the Citrix ICA Client.

Will try to ask the developers to create a mini version I can beta test for them, but it's not likely that they'll let me... SE has dissapointed me more then they have impressed me with the P800.. Sorry to say, next time I'm getting a something-else-than-SE-and-nokia-phone...

PS: Yeah yeah, I know I could have gotten a Ipaq, but that's not an option for me.. I carry around my mobile and that's about it. (no more pockets left.)

You're running out of options no?
Why not a 9210 ? I used Citrix there and is more or less usable.

"Hi Terje,

I have forwarded your information to our product team. They mentioned that they would have to have a lot of interest from
customers like yourself in order to place this on the product roadmap. Just your interest alone would not be enough
to allocate time to develop a new ICA client.

If this is to change in the future, then you will be contacted.

regards"

Let's all rally up agains citrix and SE, and show them we would LOVE their software on our P800! I'm not giving up until I have the Citrix ICA Client installed and working 100% on my P800. Even if it will take 3years, and P8000 is released with 1024x768 16m colors!

WE WANT CITRIX! WE WANT CITRIX! WE WANT CITRIX!!!

Come on, I can't hear y'all!

WE WANT CITRIX! WE WANT CITRIX! WE WANT CITRIX!!!!!

That's more like it..

"Hi Terje,

Thanks for the feedback, I will forward your suggestion to the appropriate people.

The best place to forward the suggestions is to ring the support line and open a pre-sales case.
This will make sure that all suggestions get to the right people.

Will keep you posted.

regards"

Ok, now y'all know!

GO GO GO
😉

hi,

if you need it that badly, buy a small laptop and a gprs handset.
or buy the t-mobile xda if you want a real small device.

and btw, next time you purchase something, try to inform you before buying it.

greets philipp

Citrix is a multi-user Windows access client. Rather than have high-end windows PCs on everyone's desks, you have large racks of them in a central location, and you access them through the Citrix client. The client is available on a boat load of systems, including really old outdated PCs.

The other benefit is if you have a heavy application that has lots of interaction with a server, then this shifts the bandwidth problem from the WAN, to the LAN... a good thing. You also don't have any applications to distribute to the desktops.

Citrix was a big deal when Client-Server apps were popular. Now, with the web, I don't see it as being that important anymore... unless you need to access a system that is using it.

I already have a laptop, it's too heavy to bring ALL the time.
I'd love a xda, but haven't found any shops in Norway that sells them.
P800 is the perfect phone, and Citrix is the perfect way to access *ALL* Windows applicatios.

Terje

I have good news for you... the XDA is not available in Norway 😞 , but, there is an identical device called the Qtek 1010. You can check it out HERE. 😃 If you decide to get one of these, check out pdaPhoneHome.com... we have an extensive FAQ for the XDA, which is the same device. Good luck in your quest!

Couldn't you deal with VNC? There is already VNC client for p800. You can control any machine with VNC as well, and client/server is all free, for windows/linux/etc.

what i am intrested in where did you read that it was supposed to support the citrix client in the first place? any offical information on this from SE?

otherwise it would be wise to get an official reply from SE saying they support it before flaming them, wouldnt you agree?

//Typhoon

I visited the official SE P800 page in October/Novebmer, and Citrix was mentioned as being part of the phone standard. (Accessing Windows applications).. That's why I decided to get a P800, but the page have been removed, and I'm unable to find a "archived" page, or any other link showing it.

Too bad... :-\

Hei Terje!
