How would you like Nokia to improve the n80?
Enter you anwser like this:
Software:
- Remove the static and high frequency bips when working whit a headset or earpieces.
- Software sound volume controler/limiter for java games (loudspeaker and headphones)
- importing of stored siemens ems and sms (*.smi, *.smo files)
- Skype and Winamp on Sybian
Hardware:
- better five-way joystick
- autofocus in camera
- optical zoom
- better flash
- faster processor
- more memory in phone
I think the N95 goes a long way to improving the N80. Some of the things I like
Software:
- Indication of open program
- Web and Services merged
- Video center
Hardware
- feels less bukly
- auto focus on camera / generally better camera
- more memory and generally faster
- GPS
Interesting that some of your software are more to do with the software concerned (e.g. volume control in Java games) are addressable by the developers of the software concerned.
what i want
is
more megapixals
auto focus
my gallery to be not so ghey and display all my pics!!
deadicated sound
more rom and memory
gps (though i got a unit - we all forget somtimes anit lol )
thats me sorted
What is the point listing all of these in this forum???
Maybe we could send the list to Nokia software development or someone. Its generaly a what "I want list", maybe some of the software sugestions we make will be realized in future firmware updates.
Software:
- playlist support
Music Player has playlist support, it reads .m3u files. Not sure if you mean something else?
I think the rest of you need to purchase the N95 :P
It has, will have to look thru the manual again.
Guys we missed one BIG Thing about N80, that needs improvement -
- THE BATTERY LIFE -
Nokia N80, Battery life or the TalkTime/Standby time need to be improved upon.
Hardware Solution -
CPU / Arm Processor Power utilization need to be optimized and so by the other power hungy modules like the WiFi and Bluetooth.
Better BL-5C power packs of higher mAH can be introduced by Nokia.
Software Solution -
New and improved Firmware updates for optimized power usages.
And the boot time should be a longest 5 second. 30-40 sec is just to much waiting.
this will be possible with future nokia models with symbian OS version 9.5

Man what is wrong with your N80? Mine boots in 3 maybe 5 seconds max.
Anyone elses nokia n80 booting that quick?
mine also takes 30 seconds to a minute to boot 😞
long booting is normal people, relax !
mine also takes 30-40 sec to boot but it is not a big issue anyway
40 seconds? You are saying it takes almost 1 minute to boot your N80?!
Do you guys have a lot of applications on your device?
I just timed my device's startup .... exactly 15 seconds ... give or take 2 seconds.
from off to standby screen inc passing my fone lock code
58 seconds
I'd improve my N80 by:
1. Having scuff resistant paint, within a month of it going it and out of my pocket the paint has all peel off around the sides of the front fascia. Maybes they should make a phone that is completely aluminium or unpainted dyed plastic. I am sick of mobile phone scuffs, maybes it is to force us to upgrade every year?
2. That stupid bloody flashing blue light, I have to have my phone face down at night
3. Batt life
4. SPEED IT UP, SYMBIAN AND THE N80 IS SHOOT SLOOOOOWWWW!!!
5. Improve connectivity with PC Suite.
6. Get rid of that stupid switch on the camera lens for macro and normal, the switch is sooo loose now because of wear and tear, why can't there just be an option in the soft menu like most digital cameras?
7. Camera is useless, quality is no way 3mp, they say 3mp or 5mp in the n95 but the quality is no where near as good as a 3mp digital camera.
8. Release an offical desktop stand so you can sync with usb and charge at same time like PDAs have. I have had to buy a cheap one from ebay that is stupid and will only allow charging.
9. Improve joystick, it is hard to use, not very accurate and the texture allows your fingers to slip off. I loved the joystick on my old 6600.
10. MOST IMPORTANT.... Have perfect syncing with outlook and other organiser software. The phone numbers dont sync as they have different field names. If I enter a number in my phone it won't sync well to outlook and I have to type it out again in outlook, numbers do download from outlook ok.
11. THIS ONE IS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT.... Have contacts catagories like in outlook, I don't want to trail through EVERY SINGLE contact in my list when I am at work. Would be nice to have work and home and even more catagories of contacts so that when I get to my contacts I can pick a catagory. I would have thought that this was a simple but effect way to manage contacts as most people use their phone for home and work.
Starscreamer great list, i totally agree with you. Anyone knows where to send the list to (Nokia department)?

Dont bother ... they dont listen they will just tell you to buy an N95 or whatever the latest phone is at the time ...
The only way to improve the N80 is not to add features that were not in the initial design, but to fix some of the problems that the phone has, and most of these cant be fixed because of the limitations of the software and the hardware...
You will never get a better capacity battery, you will never get improvements in the camera, they will never release a stainless case, its unlikely that a desktop stand will be released by nokia, maybe a third party one may become available
Many suggestions here can be fixed by adding third party software, just like yo do with a computer,
We all want the perfect phone with every feature in the world, but its never going to happen, who ever would have thought that a camera would be in a phone 10 years ago, or wifi would be in a phone 5 years ago, or GPS would be in a phone 12 months ago ...
You just pay your money .. gets whats available, and then cht a year later for a better model with more features.....
Its the business Nokia and othe manufacturers are in ....not to give us what we want ... but enough to just keep us happy for a few months untill they can add another feature to another model for us to buy to line Nokia's pockets with our hard earned cash ...
If you want everything on a phone at the moment buy an N95, and next year if you want the next big thing but an N105 (or whatever it will be called) ... by then it will probably be able to make a cuppa for you....
Just my 10 cents worth 😊...not having a go at anybody ...had a bad day today to feel like a rant to relieve the tension in my head 😊...

I find its quicker (maybe 20 seconds after a hard reset) with a clean phone, then as I add apps it slows down ... funnily enough just like my computer when I add extra programs .. 😞(..I try to keep my phone pretty clean now...had a year to play with it and find what I want on it .. and got rid of 90% of the crap 😊..
Cash, I am totally agree with you. I can't understand why people would ask Nokia to make HARDWARE improvement on N80. Any HARDWARE improvement on N80 means you need to buy a new phone. The only thing you can do is to pray for Nokia to release new firmware that will fix bugs in N80.
