Turning off WIFI

Hi there, a question out to fellow N95 owners...

Does anyone know how to turn off Wifi and keep it off? I've closed all applications that use Wifi, disconnected the connection through Connection Manager and turned off scanning as well. I've also gone into Tools/Settings/Connection/Wireless Lan and checked that the option "Show WLAN availability" is off.

Yet, the phone continues to re-connect to my router. The 4 boxes icon reappears and if I look again in Connection Manager, the connection reappears.

Am I missing something here? It seems crazy that you can't permanantly keep this turned off, the biggest advantage being longer battery life.

Cheers

This seems very strange.

Have you downloaded/installed any additional software to your N95 or changed settings on standard installed software which might require your phone to connect to the network.

Mobizines, for example, has a tendency to connect fairly frequently to check for new versions unless you specifically set it not to do this.

If something is set to connect to the net then it may well be forcing your N95.

I believe I have worked out what the issue was. I set up a SIP account on the phone and this was continually searching for Wifi access points which would explain why it reconnected to Wifi. I've since managed to stop it doing this and only use it on-request.

Incidentally, SIP works great on this phone. I have a VoipCheap account registered and can make cheap calls around the world when I am near a hotspot. There don't seem to be any NAT issues either. Only downside is that it seems you can't use Nokia's built-in SIP client to make calls over 3G, it only seems to work on WiFi.

Anyhow, I digress....
