How to un-brick a Nokia N80?

Hi,

I was trying to use the NSU application to update my N80 to the new firmware released(4.0707.07), and during the update, the connection got severed.

Now the phone's unresponsive, it doesn't do anything when I press the power button, even though the battery's fully charged(I charged it before trying to update the firmware). I heard about hard-resetting phones by pressing the 3+*+green button-combination while powering the phone on, but that doesn't work either.

I know taking the phone to a Nokia-authorized dealer is always an option, but I'd like to try and un-brick it myself if possible.

Thanks in advance 😊!

The Nokia dealer is the best option 😊 just tell them it stopped working dont mention upgrading etc etc

I'd still rather figure out how to un-brick it myself, and only go to a nokia dealer if this doesn't work. I'll probably have to upgrade this phone(or another phone) to newer firmware again sometime, and so the possibility that I might have to deal with a bricked phone again is there - and so I'd like to see how this thing can be fixed. I've got an unbranded N80, so running the NSU shouldn't be a problem though.

Searching through the forum, I came across this post about a "dead-phone flash". Here's the link: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/55937/

Anyone got any idea how that's done?

i have a JAF and PKEY with N80 cables for it, so if you run out of options, you can send it over and i'll try to recover it.

Sounds like a fair offer.

I took mine to a nokia service center who were unable to recover it, so it's now been sent to Nokia.

The fw design should really be looked at. We want some kind of resilient fw loader that doesn't get overwritten by a regular sw update so that the phone can nearly always be flashed esp. now we have more end users flashing with NSU. it seems a poor design not to have this. Even a 30 USD DVD drive (NEC ND-1471a) has this function.

Similar my previous PDA (Sharp zaurus) had this function - makes end user flashing far safer.
