Converting video to my P800

45 replies · 12,850 views · Started 04 January 2003

I have a question that I hope you can help me with :-?
I just bought my P800 and want to view some of my own wmv video files on it. I can easily convert my video to the right size using windows xp movie maker, where after i'm in despair! I'm aware that the file has to be in mpeg4 format (filename.mp4) but how/where do I convert the file so tha it will play on my P800?
Any help is greatly appriciated

:-? I thought the p800 can play wmv as well. In that case you don't need to convert it to mp4. The screenresingwill happen automatically when you play it on the p800. These are only assumptions on what I've read before, and I've read a lot. TRy it out and see if it works

You can find 2 here: http://www.webwatcher.info/se/

It seems pretty hard to make the files play on the P800, according to some forums (e.g. special framerates/sound settings and so on......), but I hope people will find the right ones and make lots of 'em... I also heard something about an app on the P800 CD, with which you could reformat other movies so they would be watchable on the P800, but haven't heard anything since.....

Look at this. DVD to AVI to P800 MP4.

More to come...

Really cool to hear we can convert our Dvds! but that link doesn't sayanything more than the title? How do we do it :-? I'd love to know! 😃

By the way, what's with the clip? It only plays until 29 seconds then the picture freezes and the timer keeps on ticking! The length is 10:00:00:00 in real one player!!! 😮

When I get the tech stuff perfected I'll post some instructions.

LOTR 1 trailers is on the way later today.

The PV player in the P800 does not show the length wrong - neither does Microsoft player with MP4. I know real player is stupid with MP4 - and does not support a lot of standards - but rather expects other to follow theirs....

I have a number of video clip created with my digital stillstill camera Sony DSC-S70. These clips are in MPEG-format. I have tried the evaluation copy of the Mpegable S4-program with which I can convert those files to MP4. The problem is that that program costs round 300 euro.
With QuickTime 6 Pro I also can convert to MP4, but....
The sound is not possible for QT to convert whilst Mpegable S4 does it.
Is there any other not so expensive program which can make the complete conversion?

Hi Lennart,

I don't know if X4 (the cheap version) of S4 can do the job. It cost 25!... I've posted the question to them.. 😉

Hi Kaz,

and thanks for your reply. I don't know why I did not see the X4. I have tried it and it seems to do the job as good as the S4.

It is not perfect, you have to downsize the frame and the sound is not perfectly syncronized with the picture but for my purposes it is OK.

Once again, thank you!

Lennart

i am enjoying watching videos on my P800!! HOW?? here you go with the answer:

download x4 or S4 from www.mpegable.com, install the program and run it...in setting, do the following:
1. set "Total Bitrate" on 200
2. set "Audio Bitrate" on 16kb
3. set "Target Framerate" on 15
4. in Audio tab set "Channels" on Mono, "Sample Rate" on 22050Hz
5. in Encoding tab, set "KeyFrame Period" on 75
6. enjoy watching videos.

if an error accured, retry the same setting but change the "Downsampling" Factor from x1 to x2 or x4.

p.s. this program converts MPEG and AVI files only, so convert your videos to these formats first.

How can I change resolution its at 320 x 240 and my P800 says Video dimensions too large :x

Try this site, very nice for many p800 downloads

http://sep800.mine.nu

But don't go there if you are under 18 😮ops: 😮ops:

I think we all appreciate coOKie's contribution. I found it works with downsampling at x2. Has anyone found a way to do the same with other apps such as VirtualDub and Mpg4IP etc? Many thanks.

Downsampling just resizes the movie according to pre-defined aspect ratio settings (x2 = 50% size), etc.

I haven't yet found one definitive guide on what the maximum supported dimensions for a P800-compatible MP4.

Some say 120x160.

There are P800 movies on FTPs which do not conform to these dimensions. Robbie William's "Feel" video on the site mentioned above is 176x144. The Spiderman promo trailer is 192x108 (and 20fps).

So whats the correct FPS and dimensions? Anyone know for sure?

😮
Yeah ! when I change to x1 or x2, after upload Mp4 into my P800.
Still getting the error message. What setting is the correct one ?
Anyone can pls advice us ??
THANKS !

I've succesfully encoded MP4 clips for my friends P800 with
Quicktime 6 on my Mac.
The strange thing about it is when converting with QT on my friends
Peecee, the sound disappears....
Don't know why!

Perfect settings:
180*150, 6.5 frames/s and complete image every 64 frames
Video: 48 kbit/s
Audio: 16 kbit/s

Good settings:
180*150, 6.5 frames/s and complete image every 64 frames
Video: 32 kbit/s
Audio: 8 kbit/s

Mark

Maximum dimension seems to be 200x172.
I have tested framerate up to 25fps.

Best way to resize a movie is to load it in virtualdub (doesn't work with .asf and other of microsofts files though) add resize filter, start frameserver and save the file as .avi NOT .vdr
Then load the avi in mpegable and hit encode.

Anyone know of a good place to upload some movies?

have had some success using PVAuthor for converting and downloadiing Movie files and video clips.

The Moviemaker for p800

Tried movie maker.
Its abit slower then the nokia media converter, and for some reason it drops the sound from all the files i have tried!
Odd.

Though the picture quality is better then the nokia app. 😮) Well to my eye anyway!

bought movie maker and wish i hadnt bothered it is pants!!!
got the megable demo and used virtual dub and did an excellent full conversion on to 96mb file full film!! sound is perfect and in sync, cannot say which one for obvious reasons !!!
Only downside is the avi produced by virtual dub is enormous 12GIG!!!
will probably buy megable 29 euros (when the demo runs out!!)

can now watch movie and tv progs on way to work !!

PS does anyone here use a card reader ?how quick are they in comparison to the usb connection ?it took ages to transfer the file via the pc suite software

Yes, I have a card reader and it works MUCH faster. Really worth your money. They're not that expensive anyway...
