Orange World via Wifi

I have searched and can't find this topic anywhere:

Has anyone tried to access Orange World from their handset via Wifi? It appears not to recognise the request as coming from an Orange phone and thus won't allow access. Surely this is ridiculous - i was hoping to purchase some music tracks from the Orange World Music Store but didnt want to pay the 3G data charges.

Anyone get the same? Customer Support didn't know what they were talking about

Yep,

I get exactly the same. Orange World relies on your handset's IP address to identify it as a bone-fide Orange handset. When you surf via a wifi/wlan hotspot then your phone will be assigned an IP address from the wifi router and thus Orange World will think your handset is foreign. I'm afraid if you want to use Orange World then you can only do so via an Orange 3G connection.

Having said that, Orange have introduced some new 3G data tariffs though which aren't that bad. Since Dec 06 I've been on a tariff that costs me £4 / month for which I get unlimited data usage during off peak times, 7pm - 7am Mon to Fri and all day Sat & Sun. If I do use 3G during the day then the costs are capped to £1.50 per day.

*EDIT* P.S. Unfortunately, Customer Support are about as much use as a chocolate teapot if you need to get technical information.

Thanks Steve - i called them up, switched to the unlimited evening and weekends tariff and got two months free into the bargain......can't complain too much.
