YFTP?!? Pfft..I have 160Gb of memory for Gameboy roms etc ;)

I installed YFTP. And after having it for 3 mins on my phone, I uninstalled it. 150kb for a program that in my opinion is next to useless LOL 😃 Gawd! It was slow.

I have a method that allows FTP'ing directly to your computer. And it's alot faster than YFTP.

Now you guys must have heard of Wireless IRC by now (an app bestowed to us by the almighty above) LOL 😃 And it's smaller than YFTP.

In Wireless IRC, you have the option of DCC with is sending/receiving files. Which is alot faster than FTP. Plus you can also chat while your waiting for your download.

Now you also require an IRC client installed on your computer. I recommend just something simple like mIRC from www.mirc.co.uk and set up your own room. And set the incoming DCC as auto receive. You can password protect the room as well so need to worry about the security measures. Oh yeah, you'll need to leave your computer on and perhaps at least a DSL connection to keep the room "alive".

Next you'll need to set up an fServer so you can retrieve files from computer onto your phone. Information on this can be found at www.newircusers.com/fserve.html

And there you have it. Your own FTP server via DCC. Wireless IRC has it's own file explorer built in as well. And it's only restricted to how big your hard drive. I have a 2 x 80Gb HDD. So that's 160Gb 😃

You can send pictures, videos, voice notes, text files etc etc to your computer and vice versa to your phone. This method is more secure and more private. Uploading your content to FTP servers hosted by third party companies can be viewed by the host. And sometimes they may even suspend your account because of the content  This method is for you and you only. Or even your family and friends (providing they have the password to your room and a phone with Wireless IRC installed LOL). Or they can just upload files for you to view later on directly from their computer. Great for file sharing within your group.

This method works well for me. I keep all my programs on fServe. And when I require them, I'll retrieve it from my computer and install it. Saving heaps of room on my phone (I now have 2.3Mb free on my phone LOL). I also send pictures and voice notes back to my computer without worrying that a host is going to view my *ahem*confidential files of my Mrs and I :P or suspending my account because of their anti-porn policy LOL and the endless Gameboy Roms I can store to my hearts content 😊

I hope this method will be of some use of you hardcore memory enthuasist and if you have and any enquires on how to set it up, I'll be more than happy to assist you. Maybe we could start up a ringtone and picture exchange. And don't even think of "warez" :P

Nice one! Didnt see that one comming! However I am worried about security since your room might be protected but autoaccepting DCC sens in IRC is very very very dangerous! Viruses and all! Once someone knows your nick you are history! However, its a nice trick!

MUFFSTER!!!!! hehehe

In your IRC client, you can set who you recieve files from 😃

You like my idea? Well I'm flattered

And if you can't be bothered entering users to your accept list, the nick issue can solved just by using some stupid nick like: hjjhfdkjflk or something to that degree (something that only 1 in a billion can be guessed by any malicious user).

There are also scripts that only allow you to auto receive if it's from a user present in the room. So don't fret Muffster, you computer is safe :P

(and when are you going to change your avatar? Xmas has come and gone mate ) 😃

Installed Wireless IRC, but I can't seem to get connected on GalaxyNet.... *bah*

It keeps timing out. Anyone knows how I can work around this problem?

I have to say this,great idea MR-6T9R!!!
I'll just only have to wait for gprs to happen here or wap prices to calm down a little 😊

Great idea m8...

But i came up with also an idea....

why not make a place where all of us can download gbroms and stuff.
We could exchange stuff and all 😉

As long as it isn't warez, I see why not 😃
