N95 multimedia key problem

Lo all. Had my N95 since Friday and am fairly happy with it, but something happened today that I haven't seen mentioned here so I thought I'd see if anyone else has had this problem.

When setting up the multimedia key shortcuts I noticed in the settings there's an option for background images. You can select graphics, default images or my images. I selected my images and picked one of my pictures and it worked fine, it was used as the (soft focused and slightly blurry) background. After reading in the help section of the phone that when more than one picture is selected it will slideshow through them when in the multimedia screen, I added 4 more (you can have 5 in total). The phone started slideshowing through them but wasn't showing the program shortcuts so I backed out of the multimedia screen to the main screen and hit the multimedia key to access the menu again. The screen changed for about half a second then went back to the main screen, and wouldn't access the multimedia screen at all. Since you have to be in that screen to change the settings I was stuck with no access to the multimedia menu. Holding it down accessed the music player but that's it.

I tried a soft reset which didn't work so I had to do a hard reset, then restored the first backup I'd done after I'd added all my stuff to it. The multimedia key is back to normal again but I daren't change the background pictures setting in case the same happens. Anyone brave enough to see if they can change their settings? Oh, and my sw version is v10.0.018.

EDIT

Thought it was relevant, the pictures weren't ones I'd taken with the phone and were only small in size and small in filesize (about 50k each), so it's not a memory problem.

2nd EDIT
Ok, it appears the pictures have to be in the phone's memory and not on the memory card. Tried a few more times with different pictures (various filesizes, various dimensions) and had to reset the phone again both times. Copied the pics to the phone memory and it works fine. In the phone help file it mentions settings for the zooming and panning that the pictures do in the background (try it on your own phone to see what I mean) but these settings aren't shown on my phone.

i have the same problem, i think its a bug in the multimedia software, i change the background to my prefered image, then deleted the pictures, the multimedia program restored the default image, i try to restore my image in the same path then the problem occurs. hard resetting the phone is the only solution at this time.

I have EXACTLY the same problem like you. But what can I do? When I put the photos in the telephone memory and then use it for the multimedia menu background, will it really work? And then, when I leave the multimedia menu and then open it again, it don't crashes? So it will open normally and my own photos are in the background?

Hi, sorry for the delay. All I can say is it worked for me. After it kept failing I decided I'd have to do a hard reset anyway so I tested different things and it only worked with pictures stored in the phone's memory. I've since updated the firmware and to be honest I haven't tried it since as it's working fine. There are more options in the new firmware (you can turn the photo panning and zooming off). Obviously back your phone up before you try it (just in case).

OK, i will test it at the weekend, because i have no time now. But one question: Will it work with all photos? I mean, i don't have to take only small photos for it, it works with bigger photosize, too? How it works on your phone?

I've just tested it and it worked with photos taken with the phone (copied to the phone's memory). The biggest file size was 700kb and obviously it was a 5mp image so it seems to work but it could cause out of memory errors if you use all large pics (though that's just a guess).

OK...It works! When I take photos I shoot with the N95, it works. But when I take other photos (for example, I send photos from my N70 to the N95) it don't work. After that I can't go into the multimedia menu. It only works, if I use photos taken with the N95. Is this normal? The other photos were also JPG's. Maybe a wrong size? I don't know...

This happened to me with firmware version 11.0.0.26 on an o2 handset
Images were stored on 4gb sdhc memory card.
I had to hard reset to regain functionality of the multimedia menu

does version 12 firmware allow use of pics from a memory card?
