MSN Messenger on T-Mobile Web 'n' Walk

Does the basic T-mobile web 'n' walk service actively prevent use of the phone for MSN messaging? Have any workarounds been found?

Many thanks,

Their fair use policy outlines what each type of package allows. Normal web n walk is pretty much for browsing only and 1Gb a month max (no VOIP, P2P, modem or IM) while web n walk plus allows all uses and a 3gb limit and max is the same but a 10gb limit
Although you aren't supposed to use instant messaging on regular web n walk they don't block it. You can do it but if you use it excessively they may contact you and ask you to pack it in. If you don't they may apply certain restrictions to your connection.

T-Mobiles terms & conditions clearly state that the basic Web 'n walk plan excludes modem access for a computer, peer to peer file sharing, internet phone calls and instant messaging. The 'Plus' plan excludes internet phone calls and the 'Max' plan allows it all.

I'm not sure how they tell, other than if you exceed your allowance and then they may apply network protection controls if you refuse their "cease and desist" offer. I have read though that they may be thinking of blocking the relevant ports for IM.

Thanks for the replies. I can understand that T-mobile wants to protect its Text Message income stream, but it is frustrating that they currently don't appear to offer Web 'n' Walk Plus along with the base FlexT package.

Never mind - I still have six weeks before my existing contract expires. I'm sure lots will have changed before then. O2 might even have understood that £4 per megabyte is just silly... Or perhaps not...

Not gotten that far yet, though I understand there is at least one symbian Messenger application.

There are indeed. eMSN works but is a little ropey looking. Agile Messenger is probably the best but it isn't free.
