Currently about to change from n80 to n95. Only had a few tracks on the n80. I Plan to add more to the n95. I have hundreds of tracks on itunes, and my ipod, is it possible to convert and transfer from itunes to the n95.
Secondly is it worth removing my current nokia pc suite and starting afresh when I get the n95. I have transferred all the photos from my n80 memory to a mmc and also my pc. The only thing I would lose is the sms i think. Is this correct?
Thanks in advance
1. You said that you have tracks in iTunes. If they were bought from the iTunes store then no they wont work on the N95. Music bought from the iTunes store is in "Protected AAC" format which the N95 doesn't support.
If the tracks are just regular MP3's then they will work fine. The music in iTunes is stored on your computer in a the My Music folder in My Documents on Windows or the Music folder in your Home folder on OS X.
To copy them to your phone, hook it up to your computer with the USB cable and choose USB Mass Storage mode. Copy the music files to the /Sounds/Digital/ folder on your memory card. You'll have to buy a new MicroSD card though as the N95 doesn't support MiniSD.
2. Personally I wouldn't bother removing PC Suite, as long as you have the latest version installed you should be OK.
3. To copy over SMS messages you can use the "Transfer" application on the N95 which is in the Tools folder. In fact Transfer will even copy your contacts, images, video and other stuff too!
I want to check that I'm storing files in the right place to get the best out of music player.
I'm putting the mp3 files in sound>digital.
What I initially did didn't seem to work, I did:
sound>digital>folder for artist name>folder for album>mp3 files.
The above is how I store music on my PC but the music player doesn't see them if I do it that way.
Also, if I want the album cover to display as the music plays, how do I do that? I I copy the jpeg into the digital folder with all the other mp3s, the phone has no way of knowing how to associate that jpg with the right mp3...which is why I thought I should be creating folders?
Not that I'll use them much, but I'm curious....are there any other visualisations to download? I've no idea where to look for these kind of gubbins...
I was wrong in my previous post, the directory names are slightly different, I should have said /Sound clips/Digital sounds/
The way I do it is /Sound clips/Digital sound/<Artist>/<Album>/ just like I do it on my computer, if the tracks don't show up in Music Player you can force a library refresh by going to options in the Music player and choosing Refresh Music Library.
I save a copy of the album artwork into the same folder that has the Album's MP3's then go to Music Player > Albums press options and choose Album Art, you can then browse for the cover art.
Not too sure on extra visualisations, not really something I use!
