Just received a spare battery from an online store. It does not have the same appearance as the original nokia battery that came with my N80.
It has the following characteristics:
- It came in an official sealed nokia retail package with mini booklet
- It has the hologram
- Serial number is recognised on the Nokia site
- It weighs about the same
- It is made in Hungary and has a different font (but no spelling mistakes or weird gaps)
- The appearance is slightly more faded
- The 'inner battery' is only slightly visible (but not on the original)
Is this down to the fact that batteries made in Hungary are lower quality compared to the ones that ship originally with the phone?
you can check to see if the battery is genuine here

hope this helps, Pete
That was the first thing I checked, just a bit concerned about the build quality.
It passes all the "fake" checks but anyone can put an official sticker on a fake battery. :con?
id be scared to try it as some have been exploading !
Batteries that are created in Hungary for Nokia, are they just lower quality then but still genuine?
Yes, there are genuine Nokia batteries that are made in Hungary. I remember when the 3220 was sold in the USA the BL-5B that was packaged with it was made in Hungary. If yours is genuine it is likely one of the early BL-5B batteries that was rated at 760 mAh.
Nokia has improved the BL-5B over the years; the one that shipped with the original N80 was rated 820 mAh and the current BL-5B that ships with the N80IE and other phones is 860 mAh which is now listed on the battery label.
Any ideas where you can get the 860 mAh BL-5B battery?
I've checked various places (ebay, google etc) and can only find mainly 760's & some 820's but the 860's are a bit illusive.
Would this ebay item be alright for the N80?
The label shows this is obviously from Asia but if the size and voltage is correct, the mAh can be higher the better? Looking about the web, there are a fair few 850 mAh Nokia batteries and it came with various new models as new so this is likely a genuine Nokia battery.
I've asked if what is shipped is what is in the picture and will update when I receive a response. If so, I'll probably just buy it and see what turns up.

Read some previous threads about ebay batteries here and you will find that ALL are fake and most dont work or work less reliably than Official batteries, My advise is to leave well alone ...

yeah you know... the ones that look to good, well... you know the rest! 😉
I have also bought one of these batteries made in hungary, as a backup, it lasts about 60-70% of the original one that came with my phone.
I know the figures don't quite add up but could this simply be the difference between 760mAh which are the ones sold seperatly and 860mAh which are sold with mobile phones? Therefore, any batteries purchased seperatly will not last as long.
Which brings me back to my first question... anyone know where to get legitimate Nokia 860mAh batteries? i.e. the ones that come with new phones - They must be made somewhere??
Could anyone who has a brand new phone check if their battery has the mAh rating noted on the battery... service providers may not provide the original battery so this may have to be non-contract purchased phones from expansys for example.
