Landmarks .lmx file

I'm trying to see if it's possible to import/export landmarks from Maps, so that one can share the set.

Exporting them is easy enough - though it is in a wierd place - in Tools - Landmarks - Send (it's not in Maps at all!).

Can anyone suggest a means of importing such a file? or telling me where the landmark data is stored?

The format for each landmark exported follows.

<lm:landmark>
<lm:name>St. Pauls Church</lm:name>
<lm:description></lm:description>
<lm:coordinates>
<lm:latitude>51.501382458955</lm:latitude>
<lm:longitude>-0.155613049864769</lm:longitude>
</lm:coordinates>
<lm:addressInfo>
<lm:city>London</lm:city>
<lm:street>32 Wilton Row</lm:street>
<lm😛ostalCode>SW1X 7</lm😛ostalCode>
<lm:state></lm:state>
<lm:country></lm:country>
<lm😛honeNumber></lm😛honeNumber>
</lm:addressInfo>
<lm:category>
<lm:id>33000</lm:id>
<lm:name>Places of worship</lm:name>
</lm:category>
</lm:landmark>

Can anyone suggest a means of importing such a file? or telling me where the landmark data is stored?

I was unsure of which format the POI's were in, but after reading your post I did a bit of searching and I found this utility:

POIExpress

It seems to convert .OV2 (TOMTOM format) POI databases into .lmx format for Symbian 3rd Edition.

I have not tried it yet but if I get round to it I will post my thoughts, please do the same if you try it.

I was actually hoping to be able to use my Autoroute/Mappoint to create the waypoints/landmarks.
But even if one could reconstruct a file of landmarks, we don't know how to import it, do we?

Well if we go along the same track that the above software I posted a link to does, it states somewhere that you put the file in a folder called "OtherPOIs" or "OtherPOI", cant recall which, on your memory card, not internal memory.

So, yes if you could construct a file of .lmx format then simply copy and paste it onto memory card and smart2go should pick it up.

EDIT: According to a memeber of pocketgpsworld.com, he succesfully used the above software, but adding to many POI's cripples smart2go's usability. He added all UK Speed Cameras and was too slow to use.

I have managed to first import the speed camera locations from the website I listed above using POIexpress, then using the same program export them to the Landmarks. A bit fiddly (and when I did it none of the Landmarks (i.e. cameras) had names-was just blank). But did manage to get them displayed, simply added them to a new category which I generated and then chose to show the category in maps.

I must admit I only tried it briefly but I didn't have any problems with it slowing MAPS down-I have all categories displayed on my phone and the number of individual landmarks for all of these must be several times the number of speed cameras in the UK-so find it hard to understand why it should struggle?

As I said, I have not tested it myself, just had feedback from someone who said that the 17,000 roughly UK speed cameras he added made MAPS slow (and not even starting up sometimes).

I will give it a go either tonight or tomorrow if you say all is well with it, and let you know.
