I know this has probably been asked several hundred times. But ive come across someone who has quite a few nokia 7650's and says that she can have the phone upgraded by an Authorized Nokia Agent to be able to work inside the US. Is this possible, if so then please reply asap, because i would really like to get one of these phones if i could.
Question about using 7650 inside the US
Not possible I'm afraid.
The frequencies and types of networks the US uses are different from the rest of the sane world i'm afraid.
It is a hardware problem, not a software one, which is why nokia will be releasing a different version of the pgone in the states.
Yea, i didnt think that it was possible either, just thought id run it by you guys here to make sure.
Well when he said upgraded, did he mean upgraded by hardware? Like taking it apart and adding chips and stuff to make it run on 1900mhz?
Dunno if that's possible, but i know 1 has a 8910 that's tri band, nokia made it possible, it was a special version cause he had some trips to the US.
But if you have any sim card just insert it in the 7650 and you can use it fully except for any calls or GPRS and anything to do with using your line!
(Games perhaps? But not worth it, you would also have to carry a phone with you! That means your pockets are gonna get really heavy)
here is a quote from her email she sent me.
"It is the addition of a chip in the phone so its a hardware upgrade. It will be done by Nokia themselves. "
