wifi manager
Do the update firmware to the last version, and because is N80ie version now, you have on standby screen the icon to control Wi-Fi.
how do i update the firmware ??
Go to Nokia Site - support pages - and install on PC the Nokia Software Updater.
Follow the instructions and is an auto process.
im not on generic firmware so im gona flash it now
annoyingly I lost my WIFI discover on the start screen on f/w 4.x.7 and couldnt get it back... so had to download wifi scanner from nokia download on N80... its been weird! :@
lol well everythin works well here !!
I have 4.0707 and works well. Its a good help have the Wi-Fi search and turn On - Off on main screen.
yeah, the front screen search is very useful when in 'strange places' that your not familiar with. 😊
lool its gr8 for when i need wifi
Dude,
You need to first enable your TOOLS > SETTINGS > PHONE > Standby > Active Stand By to ON
If you had the WiFi Wizard application from Nokia.com installed, you would have the option to switch ON/OFF/Search from the main screen it self.
This option also works in earlier firmwares of N80ie.
Thanks
While we are on the subject of wifi how do I connect to a network. If i go to connection manager and do a search I can see my own network and sometimes one other, choose "define access point". I am asked if I want to, I choose yes and I get a message saying something like "define access points in conn settings" and I can`t go any further. As far as I can tell there is an access point defined somewhere in the Home Network settings called connection01 but after that I am totally lost. I have searched on here for help but I am afraid all of the answers were totally over my head with talk of SID and other abbreviations and big words that I don`t understand. Networking is a mystery to me. Can anybody explain to me how I connect to a network with the N80 in very simple terms.
If you go
MENU > TOOLS > SETTINGS > CONNECTION > ACCESS POINTS
in there you can configure whatever you need to for you home/work whatever access point... inc adding in the passkey for the network.
The home media settings are for sharing the pics and movies and sounds etc on the phone/PC.
So, in your access points you should have you network set... then when you go to Web or whatever to connect to tinternet you can use that access point and off you go. 😎
Wow it works thanks, but I thought I`d done all that, obviously something was wrong. Just one more question, how do I now connect to any other wireless network, assuming I can find one, if the phone is set up to use my network at home. Sorry if its a dumb question but like I said I`m not very good at networking or even all this new technology. My previous phone was a bit basic.
well if the netowork has wireless security u need need todo the sme if it is unsecured you will just need to define the acces point
Thats what is confusing me. If I`m in the street and I can pick up someone`s network how do I know what the access point is (what is an access point). For my network it just says connection(01).

the access point is what your phone calls the network you are trying to connect to.
so, if you walk and search you can find a variety or networks but its not until you define them as an access point that you can actually use these networks.
Once they are defined in the N80, you can edit things such as security settings infrastructure/ad hoc etc, and their actual name to the N80

Don`t know what that means but I`ll give it a go next time I`m out and about, thanks again. At least I`ve managed to get my own network sorted which until now I just couldn`t get working.
