Hey there
this is my first post so hi to all,
i have just upgraded to a n80 with Three. i have 3mail set up as my free email from my provider, sending emails is fine but i dont seem to be able to get alerts when i recieve an email i assumed when i got a email it came through almost as a text message but in my email inbox? then i just click on it and it retrieves it from my mailbox.
but when i recieve an email i dont get anything not a thing!
when i go through three's webpage on my phone and then go into mail the email is there?
i have spoken to three for about 3 hours and i am now more confused than i was before.
any help would be great many thanks:con? :con? :con?
I normally get a crappy 'ding dong' type tone when new mails come in...
your mails come in as headers in your messages folder. You can change the retrieval amount and whether is automatic or not...
also, make sure you have 'NEW EMAIL ALERTS' on in 'USER SETTINGS'
thanks for replying so quick.
i just checked that and it is on, i have checked my settings and they seem fine.
conn settings: [email protected]
password : ok
incoming server: imap.three.com
access point :3mail
mailbox type : pop3
security ports : off
port: default
apop: off
outgoing.
my email : [email protected]
username: [email protected]
pasword : ok
outgoing server : smtp.three.com
access point : 3mail
security ports : off
port : default
user settings set ok
and retreavel setting are set to msgs & attachs retrieval amount : all
seems ok but it wont connect to 3mail just times out after about a min
any ideas?
thanks😎
yeah,
your mail server is an imap address yet you have your mail type set type POP.
Change the mail type to IMAP and try it.
i just changed the setting from pop to imap which makes sense to me(the original settings were sent by three)
when i now try to connect or retrieve it says it cannot connect to server.:con?
i also have a few new optins in retrieval settings, IMAP4 folder path which is set to unix path and folder subscriptions which is empty.
unsure what to try next:con?
thanks for your help:icon14:
welllllll,
it could be something to do with 3mail blocking on your connection?? How are you connecting?? Via WIFI?
I dunno anything about the 3 connection malarky?
and you definately have this mail option set up yeah??? 😉
and it is IMAP mail you have... not POP?
The other options you mentioned are as they should be for IMAP client so thats fine... I'll have a look
just had a thought... (yeah it did hurt)
You could take your settings and stick them into Outlook/Express and see if they work there... if they do... then we can look at why! 😉
also... look at changing three.com to three.co.uk
ok so i try every setting i could think of in outlook and nothing worked just kept coming back with error messages this is one of them if that helps.
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'imap.3mail.com', Server: 'smtp.3mail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'imap.3mail.com', Server: 'imap.3mail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
to me it looks like either the setting they gave me are completley wrong or there server is blocking me.
oh and im using 3gp to access it i dont have wifi yet.
(thats my next buy)
hum well call up 3 and ask them !
ok ill c if i can get them 2 understand me this time iwas talking to them for about 3 hours last time and even there tech team couldnt figure it out.
many thnks for your help anyway guys.:icon14:
have a look at this thread too... see if that sheds any light.

It looks from your error message tho that you are on a server that blocks any SMTP but their own... not sure why that would happen on your phone tho... but I can understand it in outlook.
Change the smtp to your normal smtp.yourisp.com address and try it. If your using express make sure My server requires authentication isnt checked.
plus, your account and server are the same?? Are you on LAN ?
