E70 Unable To Send E-mail when Wi-Fi connected

I seem to be unable to send e-mail through a Wi-Fi connection.

I am configured to send mail through Vodafone and receive mail through my own hosting account.

When connected though GPRS I can send and receive quite happily. However if sitting at home (and can't be bothered to fire up my PC) I can receive e-mail on the phone but not send it.

The phone is configured to ask which connection to use each time and connects to my Home wireless network quite happily. E-mails come in and I can surf but outgoing e-mails just sit in the outbox.

As soon as I switch to GPRS, e-mail transmits.

What setting have I screwed up ?

Maybe the Vodafone SMTP server is not accessible/reachable from outside Vodafone's network?

When you use Wi-Fi, you probably should be using your ISPs (who provides your home Internet connection) SMTP server, instead.

seems reasonable - after all that's why I had to open a Vodafone mail account to do it the other way round.

Can e-mail settings be conditional - if Wi-Fi access point then use SMTP a, if GPRS then use SMTP b ?

Yes, they can. I am using this feature myself, very convenient.

Depending on you overall familiarity with the E70 and my ability
to translate the menu into proper English, the below may
be understandable. I used appr 3 eternities to figure this
out myself way back.

- First you need to define the access points you plan to use,
in this case typically the WLAN access point and the GPRS
access point. This is done with the

Tools->Settings->Connection->Access points menu

A good idea is probably to test that each of them work
independently. You probably have done that already.

- Then define an access group, adding the WLAN and GPRS
access points to the group. Use:

Tools->Settings->Connection->Access groups menu

- When you have added the two access points to MyGroup, go to the
menu you see them listed, it should be something like:

Tools->Settings->Connection->Access Groups->MyGroup->Access Points

(MyGroup is the name of the access group you created.)

Select for instance MyWlan and then Options->SMTP settings.
And that is where you can fix your problem, and select a
specific outgoing SMTP server for each access point.

- Then you should create an email account under messages. I
assume that you know how to do that, and you should probably
verify that it works for instance using your WLAN access point.

Then enter your email account, and select:
Options (or Settings)->Email settings->Connection settings->
Incoming Email->Accesspoint in use

Select the access group you made above.

Notice that this will make the access group be used both
for incoming and outgoing email. (Option for selecting access
point under Outgoing email then seem to disappear.)

Hope this helps to solve your problem.
