Hello,
I have got a philips Streamium SLM5500 and wanted to use the home network function.
i click on the home network icon and turn on the share content {sharing on}- hence turning on the wlan.
i next go to the gallery, click on images and video, select one of the images, click on options, select show via home network, but it comes up with "select device" as an empty list, can you guys tell me if the slm500 will not be displayed in the home network function of n95?
I not know that device very well (does it accept videos/photos, or just audio?), But the N95's uPnp (home network) implementation is, well, just plain strange (make that crap actually) in my opinion. And it does not work with all UPnP devices - I am not sure what part of Universal Plug And Play Nokia's development team did not get.
It does not support direct streaming. It just acts as a kind of remote control - it can send files to a PC etc over the network to be viewed, and it can be used to copy file to the N95 before being viewed/played.
A real wasted opportunity, the N95 should have been a really great media streaming device. We have enjoyed this kind of use on other devices for ages. i have never seen another uPnP devices that works in this backwards way. Everything is there, we just need the software to make use of it.
thanks for the reply,
that clears one thing, that the N95 does not enable streaming.
the slm5500 videos, audios and pictures
Yep, it just seems to be 2 steps forward, 1 step back with Nokia's.
I am seriously thinking of selling my N95 and just getting a new Windows Mobile device. My N95 have Wifi, UPnP, GPS and buckets of features, yet know way of really making a great deal of use of them. So much potential, a crying shame.
