3D new message alert/screensaver

16 replies · 9,314 views · Started 01 May 2007

Hi,

I've been working on an S60 app that is a 3D new message alert and/or screensaver - 2nd/3rd. The 3rd edition version is an older version which has a boot time bug, but it works pretty much the same as the 2nd edition - I'm waiting for the fixed 3rd edition version to go through SymbianSigned.

Please feel free to try it out. It comes with a very basic model file, but I've put some more here - they're also pretty basic stuff, but you get the idea.

You should be able to use these URLs from your phone too, using the Nokia web browser.

I would be grateful if you'd let me know if it works on your S60 phone. If you do so, please let me know the model number. Also, feel free to make any other comments.

Thanks!

Max.

BTW, the emz files need to be in \others\Emdigo3D\ for Cinema3D to recognise them.

If you have Cinema3D installed and download the emz file(s) using the phone's web browser, then the EmdigoPlayer will be launched automatically and it will copy the file for you.

However, if you download the emz file(s) to your computer, you may copy the files manually to \others\Emdigo3D\.
On S60 2nd, you could also send the emz file via SMS or bluetooth, but that won't work for S60 3rd.

HTH.

Ah, some good feedback 😊

Could you give me more information?

Which sis did you install?
How did you install?
At was point and how did it fail to work?

Anything else to help me figure out what's wrong?

Thanks!

Hi,

There's a new version available.

Version 1.02.32 for 2nd edition phones is here.

Version 1.02.30 for 3rd edition phones is here.

There are many bug fixes, a new '3D Ringtone' feature, and a bundled animation specifically for the '3D Ringtone'.

Some additional animations can be downloaded from here.

Enjoy.

Max.

i've installed cinema 3d, the files are where they're supposed to be

except that my n95 doesn't see any animations in tools/settings/general/personalisation/themes/power saver/animation

also when i select the emz file as screensaver, it just won't work at all as screensaver

any assistance?

thanks

Yes, that's correct. Cinema3D doesn't work using the Nokia themes facility.

Instead, you need to set it using the Cinema3D application.

Could you give me the precise steps you are using? Also, please let me know what version of Cinema3D you are using.

Thanks.

Max.

thank you

the cinema 3d version is v1.02

the way is select is i select the animation file and select set as screensaver under the options menu. there's nothing else to do

however this doesn't seem to override the nokia built in screensaver

thanks

sorry i correct myself

the 1.02 version i mentioned is the one for the little twirling girl

the actual download reads version 1.21 for the program itself

thanks

Hrm. 1.02 is an old version. When did you download it and using what URL? I thought I had redirected all the URLs to the latest version, but maybe I missed something. If it is one someone uploaded to a web site, then there's not much I can do about that, unfortunately.

Try this - of course, you'll want the one for 3rd edition, if it doesn't automatically detect your phone's version.

thanks for your answer

however this is the name of the downloaded file, the little girl is inside the rar file

Cinema3D v1_2_1.rar

neither this little twirling girl nor other emz files work on the nokia n95
neither as screensaver nor as anything else

the directory is installed properly on the memory card

so what's the hitch - all other programs do work as per specs

can u help,

thanks

I know nothing of that rar file, so it must have been made by someone else.

In any case, the 1_2_1 version is an old version.

Please try using the links in my posts above. I thought I had made it so attempting to download version 1_2_1 would automatically download the latest, but perhaps that doesn't work (I can't test it right now).

Yes. Download the new version from here. Don't use any rar or zip files since I have nothing to do with them...

Let me know if this works for you.

Thanks.

Max.

thanks

removed previous version - downloaded your link - reinstalled

this one has a couple of emz files in it - that's ok

selected a file as screensaver - everything ok

server is on - sound is off - all seems ok

so now i exit to the fone front page - and yet the nokia screensaver shows up
not the emz file

am i supposed to leave the fone with the application running on the front or the mere fact of going to the "desktop" will switch it off - don't get it

thx

Essientially, the way it works is completely separate from the Nokia screensaver. The server runs in the background and if there's 45 seconds of 'idle', then it starts the Cinema3D player with the file you set as the screensaver.

If you switch the Nokia screensaver off, and set the power saver to be longer than 45 seconds (that's how long the Cinema3D screensaver takes to come on), then you should see it.

It isn't very flexible, I know, but integrating with the Nokia screensaver would take more time than I have available, and, IINM, it would require special capabilities that would make it difficult for us to get our application symbiansigned.

Make sense? Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks.

Max.
