T-Mobile UK N95 Unlocking

I started a contact with T-Mobile a few weeks ago, and got a N95 with it.

Im on a 25/month contract for atleast 12 months, so will they give me an unlock code now?

I dont see why they shouldnt as its not like pay as you go where I can just leave, and they give it out for free at the end of the contract anyway.

I just want the code for testing some old sim cards and using some old credit.

Ask them?

T-Mobile and O2 said they would, but it costs about £25+. Cheaper to find a local person with the right kit (small independent mobile retailers/engineers).

If I remember correctly, T-Mobile will only provide the unlock code when you have been with them over 1 month on the handset's contract, then it costs 15.

Orange will unlock the phone after 1 month, for 20.

O2 are usually unlocked.

Cannot say about Vodafone

3 are a joke re. unlocking.

Despite rumours to the contrary, it is impossible to unlock a BB5 phone.
Only the network who supplied the handset can provide the unlock code.

(Unless someone can prove me wrong by supplying name of a company or website who does unlock BB5 phones!)

What exactly will unlocking give you, the generic firmware? How would you unlock once they give you this code?

No, firmware is only restricted by model number which you can change yourself with Nemesis Service Suite (NSS) for free.
Unlocking in this context is to allow any sim in your phone. If your handset it sim-locked it means only a sim from your network provider (eg O2) will work, any other will just give an error.

After been told to wait for a month since I joined T-mobile I called cs today and asked for the unlock code, It's going to come by post and I have to wait for 28 days from today. Let's see

Unlocking allows you to use any SIM CARD from any network in the handset. Prior to unlocking only SIM CARD from the network you are contracted to work.

Unlocking does not change the firmware and does not de-brand it to generic.

Instructions are suplied with the unlocking code but usually, you enter +pw followed by a long string of numbers. etc.

I already switched to generic FW, and unlocking the phone isnt that important to me. I just wondered because its easier to have an unlocked phone.

Im still waiting for my unlock code from T-mobile, called cs today and they said its 28 WORKING DAYS, hmm...

This probably does not make you feel any happier, but Orange claim the same time (28 days) but in my excerience you usually get the code within 5 working days (via email) with a 2nd copy by letter a week later.

Vodafone have no reason to take so long!
