Hi,
I am considering my first Symbian device, the E61i looks quite relevant to me. I have been using a Palm Tungsten T3 and a bluetooth phone for years; when evaluating smartphones I find that this setup has made me quite spoiled. A few questions to help my decision:
- On mobile devices, I typically worry about software investment since there are so many OSes out there. I would want to put navigation software on there, but want to avoid buying it again if I jump to Win Mobile or UIQ later on. It looks like TomTom delivers for all platforms in a package. Can anyone confirm that? In general, what are your experiences with lost investment in software when changing device?
- I hear there is a lack of categories in the PIM apps. Any 3rd party add-on that solves this? Can the PIM app compare to that of a Palm?
- Browser. Can it compare with Opera Mobile? Is it possible to sync bookmarks with those on your desktop browser (with Opera? IE?)?
- What are the top add-ons for this phone?
Cheers, Thorbjorn
TomTom is availbale for the whole S60 range, including S60v3. Opera is also available in two versions, you can find more info on www.opera.com

I am aware that it supports the S60 range. My issue is rather that I do not want to make large SW investments that cannot be brought forward to another mobile OS such as Win Mobile without making the entire investment again. That is what I am wondering about TomTom.

You can buy it from eBay, at a lot lower price.
Have just bought Navigon GPS-mouse + Navigon Software Europe for approx. EURO 200 and am using the car holder CR-47 (for E61, as E61i cradle is not out in Germany presently, but does not matter as the E61 ist slightly thicker)
You can obviously buy cheapter GPS-mouse, but the should have in the SIRF III chip, and a cheapter cradle from BRODIT (or similar name)
You can check out different software i.e. Tom Tom or 66.com.
Other Software I have got is from Nokia SportsTracker, if you do outdoor sporting and have a GPS mouse, also VOIP fring.com
