Newbie Question - Unlock, GPS, Firmware etc.

Will the GPS work w/o a sim card?
- When I launch the GPS Map application it says Network usage disabled. How do I enable it (don't have the SIM inside as the phone is locked for now).

- The phone is from Orange and I am awaiting the unlock code. In the mean time, I tried some codes. Few times I got something like "invalid code", now I am getting "Not Allowed". I feel like the phone need to be reset before I try valid codes again. How do I reset the phone to accept the valid code?

- If I don't have any personal data on the phone, do I need to still back-up the phone before I update the Firmware? Any precautions I should take before updating this phone (from Orange) firmware?

Thank you.

Dont worry about network Usage disabled i have that too its just means its not using your network to help find your position which isnt required.

Where did you get the codes from? If you enter the incorrect Network Unlock Code (NUC - the code you have requested from Orange) more than 3 (I think) times, then the phone is permanently locked. AFAIK the phone can only be reset by Nokia so even when your NUC does arrive from Orange it probably won't work.

If you are merely awaiting the 5 digit security unlock code then you can get past this with a hard reset. (press 3 * and green keys whilst powering on the N95).

If you mean the network unlock code and you have tried too many incorrect codes then the Unlock code you are waiting for from Orange will no longer work. Only Nokia engineers can fix that one.
😮

Oops..I did not know that 😡

I got a code from unlocktelecom.co.uk

They never said anything about trying more than 3 times.

Other than NOT taking a SIM card (from Cingular in US), the phone is functional.

How can I find out if the phone is permanently locked :con?
