My contracts almost up...

Ive been reading posts here since before I got my N80, my contracts almost up and Im after a little advice

Ive had my N80 for almost 10 months and over the past couple of weeks its started to develop more and more faults.

Mainly taking ages to find a signal, dropping calls, having to toggle between the loud speaker and headset when making calls in order to hear the other person and locking up when trying to access messages, all resulting in having to restart the phone.

I flashed to the generic firmware from the lovely Vodafone version quite a few months ago and hadnt had any problems until now.

Im probably going to upgrade my phone soon but I dont want to pass on my N80 on its current state, whats the best way to play this with Vodafone?

to play it with vodafone??

call them up.. make the complaint... dont moan too hard.

call them up again later and complain again...

come to upgrade tell them to look at the crap you have had to put up with which is evident from the call history...

then barter them down with other contracts....

re the N80 tho... just try reinstalling the latest f/w

Check if you have the last firmware inside. If not, install, if yes, format the device.

Thanks for your replies.

I've just formatted the phone and according to the nokia upgrade software I've already got the latest version.

The problems still persist :con?

change it to IE firmware that one is so old now and normal n80 software

you would need to change the prouct code (NSS) i think tho (try it in NSU and see what it says V 4.0707.0.7 is the latest IE firmware and belive me the bugs are few and far between :icon14: )

yeah, thats older f/w.. I thought it was O2 that didnt sign it off but mayve Voda havent signed it off aswell... hence why it told you you had the latest f/w.

Do as bbracer said and play with NSS then upgrade if you fancy it 😊

I'll give a go over the weekend.

The phones seems much more responsive since I formatted it.

I feel positively left out here now guys 😞

I have 4.0623.0.41

It is unlocked but still carrying the 3 branded firmware.

As far i as knew Nokia didnt release a version after this one apart from the I version

If you have an Orange non IE version of the N80 with oldish firmware (don't know what version, waiting for it to be sent to me), what product code would you suggest using to allow an upgrade to a UK generic N80IE firmware?

Cheers

Have a look in the thread Cash posted... theres a load of Euro codes in there.... I think users on ther forum have tried all of them without anyone noticing much difference...

except maybe the loss of total config. for the MM key :icon13:

That can be solved if you do a back up first!

I updated to IE 2 days ago, i've made a couple of telephone calls and not had any issues so far. No white screens or resetting so far.

The phone itself seems to take a bit longer to come out of standby mode but that's not the end of the world.

The battery is still showing full bars after 2 working days (8am - 11pm), so I'm not sure if that's stopped working.
