The big attraction of the E65 for me was its VoIP capability over WiFi as I travel a lot on business and frequently find myself in offices with a WLAN. My travel WiFi router is the excellent Linksys WTR54GS which I can hook up to any available Ethernet modem or router and get my E65 online with my SIP and Skype accounts in seconds. But I cannot connect to the Linksys ADSL router in our office. It's a regular sort of set up with hidden SSID and WEP encryption (not sure why they don't use WPA) and my laptop connects to it without a murmur, as does a colleague's Belkin Skype phone. But not the E65. I've tried setting a manual IP address, etc. but all to no avail. And worse, it seems as though in trying to connect I end up crashing the router and knocking everyone in the office offline. Anyone any ideas what could be causing this, both the lack of connectivity and the apparent router crashes?
E65 - can't connect to Linksys ADSL WiFi router
if you are able to change the router settings, unhide the ssid and see if you can scan for the router, if not try changing the channel on the router, i have had this with certan wlan cards that cant connect to wlan routers because they are limited to specific wlan channels.
Thanks for these suggestions. I can't access the router myself (don't know the password!) but the office IT guys are due in later this morning so I'll ask them to unhide the SSID and see if that makes any difference. Can't see why it would, though, as I can enter the correct SSID and the network then shows up. It's when I try to connect that things go belly up! I'll also check which channel they are using but surely the E65 doesn't operate on a restricted number of channels, does it?
i have an e61 and it doesnt discover all the networks that my laptop can see..
When I explore the settings in my E65 I see that I don't have the option to set the channel number but I'll check and see what channel is being used although not sure what that will tell me!!
But any ideas why trying to connect seems to bring down the router and requires it to be rebooted?
