Fimware Update

Hi, I am trying to update my N95 from firmware version 10.0.018 to the new 11.0.026. The N0kia software updater correctly downloads the new firmware and then begins to install it.

Then it stops and asks and tells me that it can't detect the phone and asks me to remove the battery and basically recover the operating system from the old firmware. Any ideas why it won't do the update? Thx 😊

check you have the latest version of the Nokia PC Suite installed .. it has vista compatible drivers.. apparently😊

I've flashed my N95 to the generic firmware with NSU with no problems on vista with the lastest pc suite/nsu, just as straightfoward as with xp.

I done the upgrade on vista using the old software with non vista drivers and it worked ok, can say it fixed my rebooting issue, yey

make sure ur using a direct USB port and not a hub, i had same prob and had to use my brothers pc

Orange have different product code for their N95's (and most other Nokia phones). The latest firmware is only available for generic N95's. You can change your phone's product code to a generic code and then update. This also unlocks things like PTT. Search the forums for help, there's plenty of threads about this topic.

As to the original thread posters problem: Having struggled with the update myself I scoured the Nokia support website. I found countless posts about the dodgy USB drivers in the new version of PCSuite. For me the resolution was simply to remove 6.83 and install the older 6.82 version of PCSuite. My problem was different to yours though, as after changing the product code PCSuite 6.83 simply didn't detect my phone at all (that's when I panicked). Good luck!

My N95 went OK, but my N80 did this the last time I tried an update. It wouldn't power up properly either.

I just went through the upgrade process a few times and it worked eventually.

On my laptop, (Windows XP Home with SP2) NSU does not work properly unless I disable both Norton Internet Security (Firewall) and Norton Anti-Virus auto-protect. Note: As soon as the update is complete, re-enable them both!

I don't know if your Virus Checker or Firewall could be part of the problem? Just an idea.

Yeah... "apparently"... too much apparently...

Yep, make sure the phone is connected to a direct USB port and not USB hub. I had connection problems occasionally before when using USB hub.

It's very unlikely you will mess up the phone by changing the product code, - unless you change it to a code that's not a real N95 code, then NSU installs the wrong Firmware for another model.

Your contract/network won't notice the difference, although you may need to reconfigure some settings after the flash update.

You will technically have invalidated your warranty, but unless you admit it to Nokia or your network chances are they would repair a fault without noticing the change. You can also change the code back to the original one (the one printed on the label under the battery) after the upgrade then there's amost no way to detect anything has been changed.

If you are still concerned after reading all of the above, then simply wait until your network authorises Nokia's NSU to update your N95 officially.
